I had a genuinely wonderful experience with Hickory Hounds Haven. You can tell these people really care about the dogs and put an incredible amount of time, money, and effort into making sure they get the care they need. I think people see an adoption fee and immediately assume it's expensive, but if you actually look at what goes into caring for these dogs, it makes a lot more sense. This rescue regularly invests thousands of dollars into medical care. I also saw a review complaining about the adoption fee being nonrefundable. I've adopted dogs before, and that's standard in my experience. Animals are living beings, not products with a return policy, and rescues have expenses regardless of whether an adoption ends up being the right fit. Responsible rescues also need to be able to take a dog back when necessary without having to absorb every associated cost. I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to adopt and willing to understand what responsible rescue actually entails. These dogs deserve the investment, and this organization is doing the work to give them a better life.

Adopting out unspayed puppies for $500 at under 4 months old. This is a huge red flag. Spay fee is not included in adoption.

This is a dog rescue. They stated that the dog was housebroken, we paid $500 adoption fee. The dog did not pee or poo on multiple walks and only peed and pooped in the house. We returned the dog as she was not housebroken as stated. They refused to return the adoption fee even though the adoption failed because they misrepresented the dog.
