They do not deliver on promises- and use AI for editing- repeatedly ignoring my feedback.... 17 "edits" with revisions like capitalizing the word rose - the book is about roses !!!!... and refusing to use UK English and changing the format (the manuscript was formatted) so all my sketches were separated from the text.... did not listen... asked for my money to be refund... they agreed and have been arguing with them since April of 2026... also the address on their site has never heard of them... beware

FRADULENT COMPANY! COMPLETE SCAM!
Since my last review Harper Book Writers continues their fraudulent practices. When I initially hired them, I paid for them to design my website. I also was informed by them that I had to pay an additional $1000 to have my site hosted, which was never mentioned in our original contract. Now that I am no longer doing business with them, they are refusing to provide me with the login information so that I may access my legally owned website to make various changes that I need to make. They used a hosting company call Namecheap to host my website and the people at Namecheap informed me that only the person/persons that created the account may access the website. That obviously would be Harper Book Writers, and they have absolutely refused to provide me with the login information for my own website. Stay away from this company as all they do is mislead, misinform, and steal your money. Possible Class Action lawsuit is pending as they have scammed many authors out of thousands of dollars and services.

Scam company, do not do business
This company is a scam. They promise the world and deliver virtually nothing. Contracts mean nothing. They’ll take your money and disappear. It’s likely they’re not US-based, so it’s difficult to pursue legal action.

A Deep Dive into Disappointment
A Deep Dive into Disappointment: My Regrettable Experience with Harper Book Writers
Overall Rating: 1/5 Stars (Avoid if you are an Independent Author)
My journey with Harper Book Writers has, regrettably, been a profound disappointment. As an independent author, I approached them with high hopes, ready to invest in professional assistance to bring my trilogy to life and reach a wider audience. However, what I received was a litany of issues that left me not only out of pocket by thousands of dollars but also deeply frustrated and with significantly more work on my plate than before. The core sentiment I'm left with is: I wanted to love them, but I absolutely do not.
Abysmal Customer Service & Project Management: The most egregious failing, by far, was the abysmal customer service, particularly from my assigned project manager. Communication was a constant source of stress, ranging from being inexplicably yelled at during calls – a truly shocking and unprofessional experience – to being consistently ignored for extended periods. This lack of respect and responsiveness created an incredibly disheartening and unsupportive environment for what should have been an exciting creative process. It felt less like a partnership and more like an uphill battle against their own staff.
Substandard Core Publishing Services: Beyond the interpersonal issues, the core publishing services themselves were plagued with problems. The quality of editing was subpar, requiring significant personal intervention and re-work on my part. Cover design, a crucial visual element for attracting readers, was far from the professional standard I expected and paid for. Even the seemingly straightforward task of uploading to various platforms became a "disaster," indicative of a lack of thoroughness and competence that is unacceptable for a service promising comprehensive publishing support.
Non-Existent Marketing & A Dysfunctional Website: Where I truly felt cheated and saw the greatest financial drain was in the marketing packages I purchased, especially for my trilogy. The promised pre-launch buzz and social media presence were virtually non-existent. There was little to no evidence of them actively promoting my books, leaving me to undertake all the marketing efforts myself – negating the very reason I invested in their services.
To compound the issue, the website they created for my books was equally lamentable. It was riddled with wrong images on titles, lacked essential links, and was generally so dysfunctional and unprofessional that I ultimately had to remove it entirely and create my own. This aspect, particularly given the thousands I spent on marketing packages, represents a significant investment for negligible, if any, return. It felt like I was paying for empty promises dressed up as comprehensive solutions.
Unfulfilled Promises: Missing Copies To add insult to injury, a basic expectation that was not met was the delivery of my complimentary copies. I never received the five copies of each book I had published with them, a standard offering that remains unfulfilled despite my efforts to inquire.
Conclusion: A Costly Lesson Learned In essence, I invested thousands of dollars with Harper Book Writers hoping for a professional partnership that would alleviate the complexities of self-publishing and elevate my independent author journey. Instead, I received poor customer service (bordering on abusive), unfulfilled promises, and substandard deliverables across the board. I have personally had to clean up the mess they left behind, from spearheading all my own marketing to building a functional website, making their contribution virtually nullified.
Based on my deeply negative and incredibly disappointing experience, I emphatically state that I would not choose Harper Book Writers again. I strongly advise other independent authors to look elsewhere for publishing and marketing support. Save your time, money, and sanity – there are far more reputable and competent services available that truly value their clients and deliver on their commitments.

Total scam
This company is a total scam. I signed a contract with Harper Book Writers on 2/7/24, paying them $4,000 to promote my 2nd book. The reviews, articles, blogs, teasers were produced by Mark, Bob and their "teams" ranged from good to amateurish. These generated no sales because they were posted on bogus sites – sites that sounded legit but didn't exist. Before I realized these sites were bogus, Bob convinced me to pay $12,000 for an e-commerce website and 1,000 books because the books I already had available were not the right quality. Bob said they would promote the website and I would get my money back within 2-3 months. He also tried to convince me to pay them a few more thousand for a script and storyboard because some mysterious Hollywood executive was interested in possibly turning my book into a movie. I said no and Bob vanished. There was no promotion for the website and only three books were purchased from the website, people that I knew. They never received their books. I posted a very negative review like this one and Tina stepped in and begged me to take the review down and she would prove to me within 2 - 3 weeks that they would produce sales. It has been over 7 months and I have seen no proof. After trying to pass off copies of my book from Amazon to the three people who thought they were purchasing the nicer website books, she eventually had the website books sent. Nina told me that the company was selling my books at mysterious bookstores and that I had $2,500 due me in royalties. Harper Book Writers eventually sent me $500, telling me I had received $1,500, which I had not. I requested them to send me 800 copies of my book, which I had paid shipping for. They never sent. I asked them to make it possible for people to contact me on the e-commerce website, but Nina made excuses about passwords. Stay away from Harper Book Writers. They sound legit, but they are a total scam.

Worse than I ever could have imagined
Worse than I ever could have imagined. Spent months and thousands of dollars to not have 1 person buy my book until I took over the marketing efforts. They generated fake FB followers, not real, posted blog articles on spam websites and did not even get a real hit on my website until I took over. Ended my relationship with them early due to empty promises. Don’t do it.
