A partial installation to remember
Had “Mark” from HandyPro scheduled to install a new dishwasher for my Mom. They called ahead and showed up on time and were personable. The new dishwasher was an exact replacement for the broken one (Same size, dimensions, etc). Mark quickly uninstalled the old unit and then unpacked the new one. There were dents in the front panel and a slight amount of crushing to the rear corner of the unit.(I have contacted the manufacturer and store to address this). Mark proceeded to attempt an install but after ramming the unit around, determined that they had shipped the dishwasher without leveling legs. I reviewed the installation instructions and asked that he do the same. He attempted to use the leveling legs from the old unit but they wouldn’t fit. He was exasperated and continued the install and then stopped as it would be impossible to correctly level the unit without legs....so the unit is apparently plumbed and hardwired and sitting on the floor. Mark explained that he could no more and he would need to schedule an additional service call in which he’d need to add a 2-3 inch oak panel at the top of the dishwasher to secure the unit in place. Mind you, I paid $235 for this installation and now would have to pay another $148 for a return call. Mark and his partner did a cursory clean-up but left packing materials in the common hallway and styrofoam packing in my Mom’s home. Too, they left sopping towels and pot holders just thrown in the sink as well as water on the floor. It was apparent they just wanted to get out of there. After they left I began cleaning up the mess they left behind and discovered they hadn’t turned the water back on either...Mark had informed me earlier that the shut-off valve couldn’t quite shut off all the way so they needed towels and a water catch, this I supplied. While the valve isn’t their fault, not restoring water service allowed the shut off valve to leak inside the cupboard for over an hour. Fortunately I found this. Water was everywhere. The cupboard was soaked and water had begun creeping up the wall. Had I not inspected the area this leaking would have gone unchecked and caused serious damage. After cleaning everything up, I reviewed the installation instructions and found that the missing leveling legs are indeed there (I shot a video of my inspection to verify this). They weren’t hidden or disguised...yes, the directions were a bit cryptic but not unintelligible. So, I contacted HandyPro to report my experience. I left a message via voicemail and also via email and asked to be contacted. Mark, the installer, called me Monday to debate his work. I don’t want to battle with the installer. The work was sloppily done and not completed. I contacted the main office and spoke with a very pleasant lady, explained the situation and asked to speak with the office manager or the company manager. I was told “Joe”, the manager, would contact me at some point during the day as he had just returned from vacation and had many loose threads to tie up. Okay. I can work with that. I never received a call back. I’m reticent to give any kind of recommendation for HandyPro. I paid for professional installation service...the work performed and the associated tasks surrounding it were far from that.
