Sl57 Slick ST style guitar: surprisingly good
I bought an Sl57 Slick ST style guitar with Labor Day discounts for all of 200$. I really hoped that the body would be good since the ash body was what I was really paying for. To my shock, I was able to set the neck at 1.3mm action, no issues with nut or frets. No fret end issues either. Now, I knew the neck is not my style: 22 frets, tucked in as a strat, strat thick at the 1st fret, far cry from the Super Wizard necks I am used to. BUT if I can play this neck fast, it means it is a really good neck. Feels great being unfinished. It is routed for SSS so I enlarged one bay for a single active humbucker use. I ditched the stock PUs after 15 min but they were good. As in actually good, not just good for the price. But my clean tones repertoire is like 15 min LOL. Hardware is susprisingly good, too, with a monster bridge bronze block. Not designed for palm muting, but saddles are easy to replace. It nailed it for my planned niche uses. If the neck/body geometry were my style, it could easily be more than niche use. Easily a better guitar than anything I have tried in the 400-700 range.
