Disappointed in the lifespan…
Sincerely disappointed in the lifespan of the Friedrich Chill 8,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner (Model: CCF08A10A). I purchased this window AC in late summer 2020 as an investment piece. I opted for the (supposed) better brand and higher price as I thought I was buying a "workhorse" as reviews and community members described. I prefer warmer climates and don't use the AC much each summer (probably 50% of normal use at best). It is also (gently) removed from the window for winter in NYC, cleaned and stored in a closet. Unfortunately, when I brought out my now 6 year old Freidrich last week, it would not cool. I cleaned the front and back coils, with the housing in place so as not to disturb any of the parts, but there is no difference. Most suspect it needs new refrigerant, but there isn't a leak. It looks and sounds normal, it just won't cool and when I investigated replacing the refrigerant, quotes are north of $400, the cost of a new unit. Now I have a piece of junk sitting in my window and the heat is coming. Utterly disappointed. Go with Frigidaire. They are far superior in every single way.
