I tried for an hour to connect and no one showed up. Seems like a glitchy or scammy website

Hi Ryan,
I’m sorry that happened. It sounds like there was an underlying issue, as that's definitely not a normal experience on Focusmate! Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look into what might have caused that, and get it fixed for you.

it's a steal
it's a steal , I have made a yearly subscription and couldn't use it due to lack of time , and I asked them to just pay for the three months in a monthly rate and cancel the account , and the guy completely ignored me saying it's your problem and was really treating me bad.
it seems that their first objective is to make money and the people come second. really dissapointing :(
update **
their reply is just a lie, it's not what happened, if they would have respected their customers they wouldn't receive negative reviews here and on reddit...
FYI, I also ran a business and anyone that paid me for for the entire year and
out of some reason couldn't continue, I would give back the money till the last cent, because that's how we should treat our sisters and brothers, we are all connected here on this planet.
the minimum you could do, is to reach back and try to sort things out, that would be nice.

Hi Yair,
You reached out before upgrading to ask if we offered partial refunds for the annual plan. We let you know that the annual plan is a one-year commitment with no refunds once the refund window has passed. We then suggested signing up for the monthly plan, which offers more flexibility.
You chose the annual plan, used the product for 2 months, and then requested a refund — which we declined in accordance with both our policy and our prior conversation with you.
We understand that's frustrating, and we respect your right to share your experience. But we want anyone reading this to know the full picture.
We treat our customers the way we'd want any business to treat us, and we stand by how we've handled your case.

No Real Appeal Process — Disproportionate Ban Based on Assumptions
After completing over 10,000 sessions on Focusmate and being a long-standing, highly engaged member of the community, I was permanently banned in a way that raises serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and proportionality.
Personal context:
I'm from Ukraine, living 40km away from the frontline.
Throughout 2024-2025, Focusmate was not just a productivity tool for me - it was a lifeline.
Even during air rail alarms, missile attacks, and frequent blackouts, I kept working, stayed connected to the community, and completed sessions.
Being permanently removed from the platform without a proper conversation feels not only disproportionate, but deeply dehumanizing.
The ban appears to have originated from a report by a user named K******a, who believed that something I said at the end of our session was “sexual in nature.” In reality, all I said was:
“Thank you for the session, K********a (name is hidden for privacy reasons). Good luck, and see you again.”
She showed visible frustration, and later I found out she had blocked me. I was never informed of what exactly caused concern. There was no further communication or clarification, and no complaint came from the user whose profile I briefly viewed afterward — no interaction occurred at all.
Shortly after, I was judged not for direct harm, but based on behavioral assumptions.
The decision was made based on perceived “patterns of behavior” — not on actual damage to other users.
It was rooted in internal bias, personal interpretation, and the subjective judgment of a very small support team — reportedly just two people — responsible for reviewing all cases on the platform. This means that case review depends entirely on the worldview, assumptions, and predispositions of a tiny moderation staff.
This is a dangerous precedent.
Roughly a month later, I created a new account for five minutes, solely to check a profile, then logged out. No session, no messaging, no harm. I acknowledged that this was a violation and expressed willingness to continue in full compliance with the rules.
Still, I was permanently banned — despite:
No active violation ongoing at the time of enforcement. The alternate account had already been deleted. There was no concurrent or disruptive use.
Sanction imposed was not clearly defined. While the creation of multiple accounts was noted as a violation in a prior message from support, permanent bans for such cases are not listed in the Terms of Use or community guidelines.
(Archived rules reference - web.archive.org/ web/20250423004430/https://www. focusmate. com/community/ )
The rule was applied in the context of a misinterpreted situation. The prior incident (which involved no contact, no harm, no report from the person I viewed) appears to have influenced the decision — even though it was based on subjective perception.
The enforcement feels situational and tendentious. The policy was applied in a way that suggests personal interpretation, not a universal moderation standard.
No appeal mechanism or real opportunity to clarify.
The ban was final and absolute.
A single vague message beforehand offered no meaningful path to dialogue, defense, or reconsideration.
Disproportional response to an acknowledged mistake. No user was harmed, no message was sent, no misconduct was proven.
No evidence of damage was ever provided. Everything the platform can point to is a technical violation — not a harm-based moderation issue.
Responsibility cannot be shifted to “policy” when consequences like this aren’t publicly outlined.
Neglecting resource limitations does not justify injustice. Even if internal resources are limited, the burden of unjustified enforcement does not shift to the user. Responsibility for weak moderation procedures rests solely with the platform. Insufficient capacity is no excuse for issuing irreversible and ungrounded sanctions.
Focusmate promotes values like accountability, consistency, and community. But in my case, those values were not reflected in how the situation was handled.
That said — I still believe the platform has value. I genuinely liked using Focusmate. It helped me structure my time and improve my focus.
But these moderation gaps are serious, and they undermine everything that makes the platform worth using.
I still hope to be unbanned — and to return, under fair terms, with full respect for the rules.

As an online coworking platform, safety is at the top of our priorities, and we take violations of our guidelines seriously.
This person was permanently suspended due to a combination of factors, including several reports from community members, repeatedly misusing features we created to keep our community safe, and multiple violations of our guidelines.
They were suspended and warned after committing a violation of our guidelines in April 2024, and were unsuspended after confirming that they would not violate our guidelines again.
In March 2025, they committed another violation of the guidelines and were suspended. They were given a final chance and were clearly told that further violations of our guidelines would result in a permanent suspension with no chance of appeal.
Despite knowing that doing so would result in a permanent ban, they still chose to violate the guidelines and their fellow members' privacy again in April 2025.
After being notified of the permanent suspension, they sent numerous messages to our team and fellow platform members and posted this review. In this review, they mention a community member they are assuming reported them. We do not and have never shared details regarding reports.
We do our best to ensure our standards are upheld equally and fairly towards anyone who uses our platform, and a high session count does not exempt our users from the responsibility of following the guidelines.

Today I had an important deadline to…
Today I had an important deadline to work on, so used Focusmate.
I booked a session. No show. They moved me to another session 2 minutes later. Had a good session. Booked another session. Some guy just staring at the screen. I said hello, just staring. I tried to get his attention. Just staring, saying nothing. I left the session and had to wait a further 15 minutes for the next session. No Show. Then I booked another session. Person turned up late. Couldn't get her camera on for 5 minutes. Then interupted my session to tell me what she was going to do.
I spent more time messing about that actually being productive.
Spoke with customer service who sent me a cut and paste job - 500 word essay. No time to read that.
To be fair they gave me a refund.
Looking for alternatives where others actually show up.
