This is not a trustworthy company. If I could give them negative stars I would. They charged my account without any notice (yes I checked the spam folder) and because I wasnt expecting a $100 charge, my mortgage payment bounced and I had to pay a $45 overdraft fee on top of it! They say you'll get an email when your renewal date is approaching, but that's a lie. Also I've sent 3 emails to their support, as directed by their site, and have had absolutely zero contact from them. If you want to learn a language and need an app, don't pick this one. Go check out duo lingo or your local library and get a book. They don't rip you off.

Like a lot of software now with good content, it is let down by poor implementation. Signed up today and already having major technical problems - app not working and website down. Simply not good enough.

I signed up for a free trial, and cancelled 3 days before its expiry (much earlier than the required 24 hours), following the cancellation instructions provided by FluentU. I then received an email saying my trial was about to expire and my card would be charged for a year subscription (nearly $100). I emailed them to say I’d cancelled and so I shouldn’t be charged any further. They confirmed that I had indeed cancelled and that they wouldn’t be taking any money from me. Then yesterday evening, they proceeded to charge my card for the year. This is an unauthorised transaction. They clearly cannot be trusted with the bank card details they request for a free trial. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK DETAILS!!

I used the app briefly in 2020, never signed up for the annual plan, but I am still getting charged the $240 annual fee, last on 3/13/23. The app (I checked today) shows it as a free subscription but I have still gotten charged repeatedly. Please refund all charges from 2020.

First I'll write a review about FluentU customer service and then a review about the product. Firstly, my son Alex, 12, subscribed without my consent or knowledge (which is illegal) and when I got a charge on my card, I immediately contacted them so they could help me refund the amount. They won't do it as they say they sent me a reminder that I'd get charged (how on earth would I receive it if my son subscribed behind my back, using this e-mail address, which is his, and which I have kidnapped so FluentU can know whose customer I'm talking about. That's why I'm using his e-mail address on here). So their customer service is terrible, and the action of making a minor's purchase valid is illegal!! Secondly, I've checked the product and all you do is learning a language through YouTube videos with subtitles, that's it!! You can achieve the same and with far more variety on YouTube alone and a dictionary, so it's also a waste of money too! I could escalate this as a legal matter as it was a child's purchase, but to be honest it's not worth it for $29.99 USD. Stay away from FluentU

*Update* After 4-5 days I was contacted by a representative. He was polite and refunded the money. They did not explain the cause of the charge, whether it was a mistake or something in the fine print.* This website is a scam. I subscribed to their 14 day free trial two years ago providing my PayPal details. I downgraded before the 14 day trial ended, and was not billed. However, two years later (today), my subscription was automatically changed to the premium plan and they suddenly bill my PayPal account. Either is totally fraudulent or there is some bug with their application! They should refund me the money.
