Tech never showed up

I had a terrible experience with FixTman, and it caused significant damage to my home. The company installed a shelf onto my garage’s ceiling a year ago. The shelf was not installed into my ceiling’s studs, and it eventually failed and collapsed, destroying my ceiling as it fell towards the ground. After contacting the company and providing photos of the damage, we agreed on a repair cost. After several weeks of immaterial communication, I contacted FixTman to schedule the repair of their mistake. Despite promising to repair my ceiling and reinstall the shelf, they informed me that I need to hire someone else to repair the damage they caused because the damage is too severe, and the 30-day warranty is expired. Do not use this company; they won’t stand behind their work or take responsibility for their mistakes.

We booked via FixTman requesting a two person team to hang a heavy (150lbs) mirror and a lightweight painting. We sent detailed instructions for how the mirror needed to be hung and how large it was. FixTman assured us they were insured for the task. The technicians they sent were two young people who were unable to lift the mirror and had not been given the correct information about the request, so brought the wrong equipment. One of them told us he was 17 years old - which means he could not have been insured nor have had training to safely complete a job like this. They were very polite but we asked them not to attempt the task, given that they could not even physically lift the mirror, let alone hang it. Booker beware.

Do not use. We hired this company to assemble three pieces of furniture for my 6-year-old son’s room. Two of pieces were large and heavy, so the instructions from IKEA explicitly stated that they needed to be secured to a wall for safety reasons. The appointment window was between 12pm-2pm. I got a text at 1:27pm saying our technician was on the way. By 2:30 he had not arrived and I was not provided when any updates on this status. Only when I texted asking explicitly for an ETA did they provide one of 3:20. When he arrived he talked loudly on the phone much of the time, and even asked for an iPhone charger at one point because his phone died. When he said the work was completed, I checked and neither of the large two pieces of furniture were secured to the wall. His reaction was to insist this was not required. I had to show him where in the assembly instructions it explicitly said to secure the furniture to the wall. Remember, this is in my child’s bedroom. Only then did he begrudgingly start doing the work to attach the items – but not before complaining to my wife about his 90-minute drive home, as if we were inconveniencing him by asking him to complete the job safely. After he left we noted neither items were securely attached. One of them was not drilled into studs, which would have been easy to accomplish with a stud finder. The other one could have been securely attached were the screws anchored to the drywall – he just chose not to do it. So we had to correct the attachment brackets for both items and were left with four holes in our wall. Further, after he left we found a bunch of nails on the floor of our son’s room. Customer experience after the fact was also a nightmare. At first they offered a meager discount, which I declined, and then on two separate occasions failed to call during the time window they said they were going to call to discuss the matter. When they finally did call during the third attempt to connect, they texted “calling now” and then called 30 minutes later. Then they just repeated the offer for the meager discount for our trouble. Just a nightmare, unprofessional company to work with. I would never let anyone associated with this company anywhere near my home again.

Hello Jimmy Bruno, This is FixTman Customer Relations. We've checked the details of your project. We asked you if you can provide pictures or web link of your trampoline but you can't provide. Your service comes with a 30-day warranty and if there's an issue with the installation, we will fix it. The technician missed to double check everything especially with a loose screw due to it's already dark. We reached out to you to schedule a revisit appointment, Wednesday, July 19th, 2023 to fix the issue and you confirmed the appointment. However, you informed us that you neighbor fixed it for you. If you have any questions or clarifications, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are more than willing to work things out with you.

So this job is going to cost $149 to remove and install a new window air conditioner. I had 3 emails quoting that price. I get a call to confirm the job, he tells me it’s going to be $159, that’s okay, no biggie. The guy was so hard to understand, his English wasn’t so great and he talked so fast. I sent photos like they asked, one of the old A/C inside the house and outside plus a photo of the new A/C with the Brandname and the btu’s. My appointment was from 10am to 12pm. The tech let me know he was on his way at 11:30am, he didn’t arrive until 12:49pm. He was such a nice guy I couldn’t be upset. Turns out no one told him to bring someone to help lift the A/C. Then because he had to “move it” to the wall there would be a $50 moving charge. What? So he calls someone at the office (not saying his name because he may try to charge for that too). So the office guy is on speakerphone and he says I have to pay the $50 moving charge and now another $50 because they have to find a helper and it will be hard cause it’s Father’s Day. He calls back and says he has someone coming but it will be an hour because he is so far away. My mother was upset and said it wasn’t right that she had to pay another $100. Later the office guy called me back to okay the new invoice, let him know we were not happy. While on the speakerphone where my mom and the the tech both heard him say that he “assumed” it was a small A/C and that’s why he sent 1 tech. I said the pictures were a sign it was going to be big and he said there was a glitch and they couldn’t see the photos, seriously. He said it was my responsibility to let someone know the size, again seriously. I told him he should pay for the helper because he was the one who was suppose to ask questions about the job. He called his manager to have the new charges removed. Meanwhile as we wait for the 2nd tech who also will remain nameless for fear of retaliation found out from the office guy that he may not get paid, he was half way and returned home. The office guy kept calling the tech and then me to confirm the new charges, each time we told him he was on speaker but he would still call the tech and then me. Finally got the “moving charge”” removed and after a 24 minute conversation the helper fee was lowered to $40. The office guy then tells me he will call the 2nd helper, this is where he found out it would be an hour because the guy went home. The trip for both tech’s were 60 miles one way and they don’t get insurance or gas mileage from their company. So the first tech left to get something to eat, he’s been in our house for 2 hours waiting to work. While he is out the 2nd helper finally arrives but is mad and is ready to leave because the other tech isn’t back yet. I told him we had been waiting for him to arrive so the least he could do is wait for the first tech to come back. I text the first guy hoping he sees it, so while waiting the 2nd guy wants to know why the first tech and myself (a 65yr old woman) couldn’t lift the 135lb A/C into the wall. Seriously! Told him don’t you think we would have done that if possible. Next he tries picking up the A/C and almost dropped it. He bent the some of the coils (but I don’t have proof..my word against his). Then he tells me to try and help him pick it up while my mom is yelling…no,no,no. He gives up and is heading to his car when the first tech arrives. The 2nd guy even yelled at the first tech not to park behind him. It took less than a few minutes to get the A/C in the wall. As I’m inside guiding the unit in the house the 2nd guy says nothing and turns around and gets in his car and leaves. Seriously! We waited from 10am till the job was finished at 4:45pm. What a stressful day! The only good thing about this day was the fact that the first tech was such a true gentleman and was willing to stay until the job was done. We had such a wonderful time getting to know him. If anyone plans on using this company for a handyman job know first that the office guy will send anyone to a job whether the tech knows how to do that job or not and if something has moved there will be a $50 charge. Normally when a A/C unit is installed it’s one price but at this company they charge for the job first then $50 to move it into the wall. Beware of the word “moving charge”!!!! Never will I ever….use this company again. My mom and I were at our wits end. Such a horrible experience!

Had we known they were going to send "techs" that had absolutely no idea what they were doing, my husband and I would have done this job ourselves. By no means are these professional contractors. I have never seen "techs" look at instructions so confused before. They also came unprepared for themselves, practically begging for water anytime we checked on them. Any professional contractor comes prepared for themselves and don't ask anything of the client. I am pretty sure they just hire anyone that can pass a background check. It's 3 days into the job, and they have left our Gazebo damaged, unsafe, and incomplete. Now they're saying they can't finish the job. They also didn't use any silicone during the job. It's missing part of the roof. Only 2 anchors used on each foot while 3 holes were drilled. Anchors are loose and not secured to the concrete. This is unacceptable, unsafe, dangerous, and not up to code. Customer service has been anything but that, and have done nothing to make things right. We can't get anywhere with them. This Gazebo was gift to us for our first home. Now, we're stuck with finishing up the job because FixTman cleary has no understanding of what a job done right looks like. Not to mention were stuck with the damage that the techs made. Save yourself the money and time. FixTman is a scam, and they will leave you high and dry. They are not to be trusted. Do not give them a dime of your hard earned money because they will not work hard for you.

This is actually a 0 star review. Contracted them for a gazebo installation. It seems they don't have any control over their workers or contractors, who took them for a ride. They never showed up even after getting a confirmation a hour an before the scheduled time. when I contacted the workers met with an emergency or incommunicado last minute. This happend 3- 4 times. Even after 3 weeks they couldn't install the gazebo.
