Photo-editing services don’t work. I make the blemish removal edits and, when I like the edits made, select Export. The app and browser then proceed to offer me an UNEDITED image for download. I have submitted a detailed explanation along with a photo and screen recording of the issue I’ve had and requested a refund, and customer service continues to give me the runaround.

The Headshot Generator controversy…
The Headshot Generator controversy showed exactly how little Evoto respects its users.
Instead of being transparent from the start, the company reacted only after users complained. That’s not how you treat paying customers.
Trust is everything when you’re dealing with AI, images of real people, and professional work. Evoto completely failed on that front. Even if the software works, I no longer feel comfortable supporting a company that handles things this way.
Response from EvotoJan 19, 2026
Thank you for holding us accountable. We fully agree that trust is earned through transparency, and we fell short here. We have permanently shut down the AI Headshot Generator because we realized it didn't align with our commitment to you. We do not, and will not, use your images to train our AI. We are dedicated to doing better and focusing strictly on the retouching tools that empower your unique work.
While we have your attention, it would mean the world to us if you have other complaints or feedback for us, every word from each and every one of our customers are most valuable, and we would love to know what else we can do better. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us.

Betrayed Their Own Customers - Disingenuous Apology
Evoto launched an AI headshot generator that directly competes with professional photographers—their own customer base. When caught, they claimed it was a mistake, but evidence shows they’ve been marketing this tool since summer 2024. Their apology is full of untruths and feels like damage control rather than genuine accountability.
What makes this worse: Their Terms & Conditions reveal that by using their software, photographers granted Evoto an irrevocable, royalty-free license to use uploaded images to train AI algorithms and improve their products. In other words, we paid them to edit our photos while unknowingly training the AI tool that would replace us.
Key T&C concerns:
• Irrevocable license means you can’t take back permission once given
• They can use your content to train algorithms
• They can sub-license these rights to others
• The license is worldwide and applies to future media
As a professional photographer who relied on Evoto for editing, discovering they were secretly building tools to replace us while using our own work to do it is a massive breach of trust.
Photographers: be aware that this company sees you as both customer and competition. Consider alternatives that actually support the photography community rather than undermining it.
Response from EvotoJan 19, 2026
Thank you for your sincere comment. We at Evoto want to address your concerns with the transparency you deserve. We understand why the timeline of the AI Headshot pilot and our standard Terms & Conditions have caused such a deep breach of trust.
On Data & Training: We want to be definitive—Evoto does not use your photos or your clients’ photos to train our AI models. While our T&Cs include broad, standard industry language regarding "licenses" to allow the software to technically process and render your images in the cloud, our policy is strict: we build our models using only commercially purchased, licensed datasets.
On the T&Cs: We hear you. We realize that "standard" legal language can feel like a betrayal when trust is at stake. We are currently reviewing our Terms and Conditions to ensure they more accurately reflect our actual practice: your work is your own, and your privacy is a cornerstone of our platform.
On the Headshot Generator: You are right that we explored this frontier, but we quickly recognized it does not align with our mission. We have permanently removed the feature. We are not your competition; our goal is to handle the heavy lifting of post-production to give you your time back—not to take your place behind the lens.
While we have your attention, it would mean the world to us if you have other complaints or feedback for us, every word from each and every one of our customers are most valuable, and we would love to know what else we can do better. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us.

Would have been five stars until..
Would have been five stars until..
This company made professional photographers lab rats. Using our input and work to develop a consumer facing AI tool that in their own words replaces the need for a photographer.
The first response was some weird “apology “ that something they were testing “accidentally went live”
Then finally an apology but too little too late.
And now they buried portrait and headshot tools in some other site they have for art. Trustpilot won’t allow the link here.
Complete breach of trust and lack of ethics. Maybe you should have given us photographers ownership in your new business venture since you couldn’t do it without us!
Response from EvotoJan 19, 2026
We hear the depth of your frustration and realize that our initial communications felt inadequate. Trust is the most valuable asset we have, and we clearly fell short in how we managed this pilot.
To be absolutely clear: The AI Headshot Generator has been permanently shut down. We want to address the "other site" concern directly: Evoto does not have a secondary site or platform where this tool is hidden. We recognized that this specific technology does not align with our mission to empower professionals, so it has been fully decommissioned from our ecosystem.
On Data Ethics: We want to reassure you that you were never "lab rats." Evoto does not use your photos or your clients’ photos to train our AI. Our models are developed using strictly licensed, commercially purchased datasets. We are a tool for post-production—designed to give you your time back, not to replace the irreplaceable connection between a photographer and their subject.
While we have your attention, it would mean the world to us if you have other complaints or feedback for us, every word from each and every one of our customers are most valuable, and we would love to know what else we can do better. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us.

Stop AI generated headshots
Stop AI generated headshots! You're putting the industry that supported you and you made millions off, out of business! Stop
Response from EvotoJan 19, 2026
We hear you, and we agree. We have officially and permanently shut down the AI Headshot Generator.
We recognize that this tool felt like a direct threat to the very industry that built Evoto. Our mission is to empower photographers, not replace them. We realize that by even piloting this feature, we crossed a line that compromised the trust of the community that has supported us from the beginning.
We want to be clear on where we stand now:
Human Artistry is Irreplaceable: We believe the soul of a portrait comes from the connection you have with your subject. A machine cannot replicate that.
Data Integrity: We do not use your photos or your clients’ photos to train our AI. Your work is your own, and your privacy is a cornerstone of our platform.
We are refocusing 100% of our energy on being your partner—handling the heavy lifting of post-production so you can spend more time doing what you do best: being behind the lens.
While we have your attention, it would mean the world to us if you have other complaints or feedback for us, every word from each and every one of our customers are most valuable, and we would love to know what else we can do better. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us.

Stolen Images to create AI photo generator!
Using my professional photographs to create an AI headshot generator is shameful. Do not recommend!!
Response from EvotoJan 19, 2026
We hear your loud and clear, and we fully agree, therefore we want to address this directly:
Evoto does not use your photos, your clients’ photos, or your intellectual property to train our AI.
We understand how deeply concerning the idea of 'stolen images' is to a professional creator. Please be assured that our AI models are built exclusively using strictly licensed, commercially purchased datasets. Your work is—and has always been—your own. Protecting your data integrity and privacy is a cornerstone of our platform.
We also want to share that we have permanently removed the AI Headshot Generator. We realized that this tool did not align with our core mission: to build tools that empower photographers, not replace them.
While we have your attention, it would mean the world to us if you have other complaints or feedback for us, every word from each and every one of our customers are most valuable, and we would love to know what else we can do better. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to us.
