SANTAL ROYALE: A REVIEW I think my search for the perfect sandalwood is over. It ends here. Over the past decade or so, I have tried countless sandalwood oils, and perhaps two or three come close to this in creaminess and complexity. There was a vintage Mysore that I am reminded of, with its intimate and comforting warmth, like a mother's soothing caress that takes you back to your earliest years where the room was filled with love, and the scent of powdery incense, the sound of your heartbeat surrounded by the hushed voices of loved ones and the singing of musical toys like a mellifluous dream from a time long gone... There are others notes not typically associated with sandalwood too: a hint of cola or sarsaparilla, agarwood, musk, jasmine, toffee, plus butterscotch, and honey even, but never too sweet or cloying. Importantly, everything is balanced and harmonious, the complex notes come together in accord (pardon the pun with perfumery, but this is in fact like a multifaceted accord composed of a single, pure ingredient) and you just want it to last forever.
