Oh Barbara: ONE TIME AND YOU GAVE UP!!! You should have phoned or written us. This is Pure Lanolin that is so nurturing for the skin and it is in the ear plug to make it slightly "tacky" so that it will seal the ear canal and really BLOCK OUT! Barbara, this ultra-high blocking ear plug works WONDERFULLY! All of us here in the office wear them nightly. Please follow the directions below and you'll be in for a pleasant surprise. 1. The very first time that the ear plugs are prepared for insertion, they require kneading or working through one's fingers or hands for at least 20 seconds to make them soft, moldable and to disburse the pure Lanolin throughout the ear plugs. Secondly: Most women feel that the ear plug is a bit (too large) for their ear canals, so just after kneading the ear plug to make it soft and moldable, they pinch off about 1/3rd before inserting. 2. Now that it is soft and moldable, use the tip of your index finger and push and flatten the ear plug somewhat ( firmly ), IN & AGAINST your ear canal, until you feel a good seal. When inserting the ear plug, be slightly firm and (not be too delicate). If it doesn't seal immediately, just keep your finger pressed against the ear plug for a few more seconds, and it will seal the ear canal. 3. Now take the other ear plug, prepare it the (same way and insert it exactly the same way) as the first ear plug. If you prepare and insert the ear plugs as I described above, then you will notice that they seal the ear and block-out wonderfully! Oh Bill: I too am a bike rider and there is no finer ear plug in the world for this application. You have got to knead the ear plug for at least 20 seconds just prior to insertion to make it soft and molable. When it is soft and moldable, it is so comfortable and it cannot hurt. You might be pushing it too firmly against your ear opening. The stickyness is Pure Lanolin and it allows the ear plug to "seal" the ear canal and stay securely. Bill, the ear plug is better that you think. Please wear it often and give it a "Fair Test". Sincerely Joseph-BPI customer service
