Ben, it is much easier to insert them then you experienced; but being soft and moldable, inserting our ear plug is a bit different from inserting a foam ear plug that is supposed to expand and block out. Ben, please follow these instructions below: After you have first kneaded them for 10-15 seconds to make them soft and moldable; use the tip of your index finger & push the ear plug IN and AGAINST your ear opening until you feel a good seal. If it doesn't seal immediately, just keep your finger pressed against the ear plug with slight pressure for (a few more seconds) and it will seal PERFECTLY. Dear Mary: I too wear this exact ear plug every night to block out my husband's snoring, and it not only works wonderfully, but it is the HIGHEST BLOCKING (most sound suppressing) ear plug in existence; but to experience the superior performance, you must follow (exactly), the preparation and insertion directions below, and you will then see why all the testimonials on our website page are true and accurate. Mary, please follow the steps below for correctly (preparing & inserting) and give this fine ear plug a chance to prove itself. You'll be glad you did! 1. Just as you are about to insert, take ONE ear plug and {work it or knead it} thoroughly between your fingers or hands for at least 20 seconds to make it soft, moldable and to disburse the Pure Lanolin throughout the ear plug. Pure Lanolin makes the ear plug slightly “tacky” so that it stays securely in the ear canal and seals it. When the ear plug is soft and moldable and ready to insert, it doesn't matter what shape it is; round, flat, long or narrow; just follow the next step. 2. Using the tip of your index finger, push FIRMLY & FLATTEN the ear plug IN and AGAINST your ear canal (until you feel a GOOD SEAL!) If it doesn't seal immediately, then hold your finger pressed against the ear plug (with slight pressure) for a few more seconds and it will seal well. 3. Now take the other ear plug, prepare it the same way & insert it into the other ear. With both ear plugs inserted correctly & sealing the ear canals, you will definitely notice a big improvement. 4. To Remove: Simply pinch the ear plug with your thumb & index finger and gently pull downward and out. Dear Karen: From your description, I know exactly what you can do to change your experience to complete satisfaction. 1. Just after you have (worked or kneaded) the ear plug sufficiently to make it soft and moldable; pinch off about 1/3rd to make a smaller ear plug and insert the remaining 2/3rds. 2. Be sure to push the softened ear plug (a bit firmly) IN and AGAINST your ear opening (UNITL YOU FEEL A GOOD SEAL)! 3. Now listen to the silence and experience the comfort. Dear Marv: You've got to (work or knead) the ear plug for 15-20 seconds just prior to inserting. It will then become soft, moldable and especially comfortable to wear.
