Dear Judy: Yes, SEALING the ear canal is 'everything', when it comes to (blocking out) sound or SEALING out water. HInt: When you insert our softened ear plug; if it doesn't SEAL immediately, then keep your finger pressed against the ear plug (with slight pressure), for a few more seconds and it will warm and SEAL well.
