Dear Jeannie: On the contrary! They are the BEST and if you'll follow my instructions below, you'll change your thinking Mighty Plugs will work PERFECTLY for you, but they are not a bit like FOAM. They are made from Beeswax and the cotton fibers hold them together very well. If your hair is touching the ear plugs, then you are not pushing the ear plug firmly enough into the ear canal and it is protruding out too far and getting involved with your hair. Jeannie, just follow the below instructions (exactly) and you'll be very very happy with the sound being blocked out. 1. First take ONE ear plug at a time and (knead or work) it well through your fingers or hands for 15 seconds to make the ear plug (soft and mouldable). Then follow the directions in # 2 2. Push and flatten the softened ear plug, (a bit firmly), IN and AGAINST your ear opening & into your ear canal UNTIL YOU FEEL the ear plug ( SEAL ) (SEAL) (SEAL) your ear canal. YES, It needs to SEAL the ear to block out much. IMPORTANT: If the ear plug doesn't (( SEAL )) immediately, then just keep your finger pressed against it for a few more seconds and it will warm and SEAL PERFECTLY. 3. Now take the other ear plug, and prepare it and insert it (exactly) the same way as the first ear plug. Now, with both ears SEALED, LISTEN TO (( SILENCE )) !!!!!! Dear Jeffrey: The "crusty residue" experience is one that we have NEVER heard of before. Jeffrey, I have an idea; after taking a hot shower, take a soft tissue, wipe the inside of your ears thoroughly and then take 2 cotton tips; gently and carefully clean the inside of the ear canal, but do not go into it too deeply. Then before inserting our ear plug, take ONE ear plug at a time and (work or knead ) it well between your fingers or hands for 20 seconds to make it (soft, mouldable) and to disburse the pure Lanolin throughout the ear plug. Then perform the exact process with other ear plug. Insert them, wear them and you'll see that most likely there is NO residue at all. Jeffrey, keep me posted and let me know how that worked for you. Mac, PURE BEESWAX is not only the HIGHEST BLOCKING all natural ingredient in the world, but it becomes (soft and moldable) when one (works or kneads) it between their fingers of hands for 20 seconds. This (soft and moldable) characteristic is what makes this ear plug (( especially comfortable )) to where all day or all night; yet you can always try FOAM ear plugs. Then push and flatten the softened ear plug, (a bit firmly), IN and AGAINST the ear opening, UNTIL YOU FEEL the ear plug ( SEAL ) (SEAL) (SEAL) your ear canal. Dear Steven: OH YES! We know they BLOCK OUT WELL !! Steven, if there is any residue, it has to be the PURE LANOLIN. It surely cannot hurt you. In fact it is good and nurturing for the skin. Whenever how rarely we hear back from a customer regarding any residue, we ask TWO IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: 1. Did you (( work or knead )) the ear plugs for a minimum of 20 seconds prior to insertion to make the ear plugs (soft and moldable), but more importantly; to (( disburse the pure lanolin )) well throughout the ear plug? 2. Do your ear canals have much hair in them? One more thing to add, Steven: Put some talcum, baby powder or food starch in the palm of your hand and work the powder well into the ear plug. That will reduce ((any )) residue completely. If you did nothing, your body would absorb the Lanolin with one or two wearing anyway. Most sincerely Mary-customer service
