Expensive ultra-processed food
Don't get fooled by the advertised health benefits, this is ultra-processed food and cannot be good for your health. It says no added sugars, but contains juice concentrate as a main ingredient, the sugar content is about 10g /100 ml, about the same as Coca Cola. Do they think that they can still fool people with the "no added sugar" claim, in 2023? This is just the worst type of misleading advertising. The sugars in juice concentrate are exactly the same as added sugars, and this is a well known fact. Other ingredients found here are things that you would never find in your kitchen: collagen hydrolysate, pectin, artificial raspberry flavour, L-carnitine, sunflower seed protein, tochopherols. We now have abundant research showing that ultra-processed food such as this is the main cause of obesity in modern societies, and isolating single molecules from food and adding them to create a supposedly healthy food substitute is not a proven way to make people healthy. Some of these ingredients may not even come from food, and rather be produced in the lab. This is not real food and I regret I ordered these smoothies without reading the full label first, they cost a lot of money and are likely to be unhealthy. There is no need of adding vitamins and nutrients to your diet through artificial products, when these abound in vegetables (and you get healthy fiber instead of sugars). The claim benefits of Omega 3 supplementation is also a controversial topic, and certainly not a settled issue to date.
Response from EO3May 10, 2023
Hi Luca – We appreciate you sharing your concerns. We created EO3 to help maximize omega-3 absorption, as 98% of Americans have been found to be omega-3 deficient. We utilize pure Norwegian cod liver oil and whey protein to create a multi-nutritional smoothie that is intended to be used as a supplement within the diet, to obtain omega-3s and protein throughout the day. To review a few of your concerns, we use the fruit juice concentrates to sweeten EO3, but also to provide additional vitamins and antioxidants! L-carnitine is naturally present in many foods, playing a role in energy production. Tocopherols are the major forms of vitamin E – they have been shown in research to have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. EO3 is intended to be used as a supplement, supplementing a whole-foods, balanced diet. As we do agree that ultra-processed foods should be limited, we do not agree that EO3 is one. Ultra-processed foods including chips, candy, breakfast cereals, etc. do not contain much nutritional value. However, EO3 contains a great source of essential omega-3s, high quality protein and a variety of vitamins and minerals. By supplementing EO3 within a whole-foods diet, an individual will be able to fuel the body with essential nutrients and a good source of energy. As I am sure we can both agree on, balance is key in a healthy, sustainable lifestyle!
