DO NOT DO SIBLING TEST HERE
The results are not accurate and algorithms used to determine sibling relationship are antiquated. I had several concerns about the correct test to use as I am an adoptee looking to confirm possible (half sibling relationship) with probable shared mother. Prior to taking the test, I called the company and stated my concerns as I am somewhat well versed in genetics, statistics and probability...The customer service rep sold a $600 test that would be likely improbable to conclusively determine relationship despite my concerns. Exactly what I said would happen, happened--the tests cane back inconclusive. The testing procedures they use may work in many cases but if you are an adoptee searching for answers LOOK ELSEWHERE. This company uses tests to primarily determine paternity and paternal relationships. Adoption is not exactly their forte. I will be disputing with my bank since the company has admitted this was the wrong test yet offered nothing to remedy the situation. Good luck everyone ADOPTEES BEWARE!
Response from DNA Diagnostics CenterDec 6, 2019
In instances such as this, our representative will talk through the situation and recommend the best method of testing to our client, who can then either agree or disagree to proceed. As you alluded, sibling testing is not black and white. We will then perform the DNA testing. In most cases reports are very conclusive, and this case is no different. When a client advises they do not agree with a result or would like to explore the relationship further, we will suggest different tests (if they are available in the clients situation). This is only at the request of a client, as the testing that was initially performed was what we felt was the best possible test for the situation. Unfortunately the type of testing that the customer agreed to is not as concise as testing with a potential mother or father; she only has a potential half sibling available for testing. However, our testing is far above industry standards, as are the algorithms and processes we use and that are prescribed by our accrediting bodies. We are always happy to discuss additional options if any are available, or to explain testing reports in further detail. --Chris O.
