Offering high quality 3 - 6 day cruises with a maximum of 12 guests on the historic Discovery in beautiful Prince William Sound, Alaska (just south of the largest Alaskan city, Anchorage). We do offer a handful of trips that incorporate Denali National Park as well. Prince William Sound encompasses 3,800 miles of coastline to explore via kayak and foot. The Sound is home to the densest concentration of tidewater glaciers in the world, containing 50 glaciers and 17 tidewater glaciers (touching the ocean), known for dramatically calving huge ice chunks into the sea. Enjoy spectacular views from sea level up to 13,000 ft mountain peaks. More than 220 species of birds (and around 200,000 seabirds summer in the Sound), along with 30 species of land mammals, and at least a dozen marine mammal species make this area quite special. Resident marine mammals include humpback, sei, fin, minke, killer whales, and dall's porpoise as well as Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. In western Prince William Sound, black bears may be seen on narrow beaches and are most often seen fishing when the salmon are spawning.

The cruise I took with Discovery Voyages in May 2022 exceeded my expectations. The crew was extremely knowledgeable about the everything in the Prince William Sound, whether it be geology, birding, wildlife, or the history of the area. And the food was so good, and chef Megan accommodated everyone's food preferences. Being able to kayak and hike everyday made the trip special.

The Discovery Voyage - one of a kind vacation!
The Discovery Voyage was one of the best trips I've ever taken. I didn't really know what to expect, but was blown away each and every day. The boat itself is fun, clean and well stocked with everything you could possible need, Meg is a genius in the kitchen and kept us sated with unbelievable fresh and healthy meals 3 times a day (and that's not including snacks!), Dean is so knowledgeable and loves sharing his deep love of the sound with everyone, Erin and Tori were patient, energetic, safety minded, knowledgeable about all the hikes and paddling trips they took us on and I can't imagine our outings without them. This is a trip I will never forget, and I hope to do it again!

I am not sure how you could improve on this voyage. Wonderful boat, staff and the range of locations and activities all contributed to one of the best holidays we have ever had. Our highlights were the kayaking and seeing the river glaciers as they carved.

This was a long awaited family trip of…Amazing Adventures
This was a long awaited family trip of ten people with ages 73 down to 4 1/2 traveling. As the initial researcher for this Alaska trip, two things appealed to me about Discovery Voyages : First, it is a smaller ship that can access places that bigger exploratory boats can’t, and second , it is family owned and operated. As it turns out, there were so many advantages beyond those two, that they are almost too numerous to mention…but here are a few : Captain Dean and Megan, the owners, have an extra deep and wide knowledge of the area . Dean is a great source of information , coming from his years as a fisherman , and his personal research into glaciology , geology, ecology , flora, fauna, and everything else Prince William Sound. He also has some really good “ only in Alaska” stories ! He is personal and professional , and we always felt safe to adventure as much as we wanted ( with three young kids in tow) . Helping in the adventures , while keeping the 65 foot Discovery ship shape were shipmates and guides Erin and Chloe, two young women who were unfailingly good natured and willing to help with whatever we needed. These two were the kind of people you truly miss when you leave the few days you had together ..we hope we cross paths with them again. Finally, Megan, co-owner, Captain Dean’s wife , logistics manager and Super Chef, over delivered in every wonderful manner with her meals of fresh seafood, healthy side dishes, and always available treats . Our group included some avid foodies, and all were asking for “ Megan recipes”. Most in our group have traveled all over the world, and we all agreed there was something special to this trip, hard to describe in ordinary language . Thank you, Discovery Crew, for the trip of a lifetime, we are so very grateful to all of you.

There really aren’t enough stars to express our pleasure with everything about it. We have now travelled on the Discovery 4 times. Maybe that says it all.
All the people we have taken with us continue to call it “a trip of a lifetime”.
INDEED.
ALWAYS: great crew…great food…great experiences (different every time!!)…and then there is always the MAGNIFICENT scenery.
Don’t miss it!

Fabulous journey in the Prince William…
Fabulous journey in the Prince William Sound with incredible views of mountains & glaciers, abundant sea life along with gourmet meals. Special highlight was kayaking in calm waters and in the ice that had calved off the glaciers. Owners Dean and Meg were amazing hosts along with two outstanding young women crew. Trip of a life time!
