Great for the Money
The course covered everything. It was easy to navigate the course content. You could set your own pace. Some of it was too repetitive. They had a few errors, where the mixed up increase and decrease, even in one of the test questions. I would have liked to know my actual score and which questions I got wrong, if any.
Response from Defensive Drivers InstituteAug 14, 2026
Thank you for your 4-star review, Wayne! We're glad you found the course comprehensive, easy to navigate, and appreciated the self-paced format. Your feedback about repetitive content is noted. Some repetition is intentional to reinforce key safety concepts, but we understand it can feel excessive at times. More importantly, the error you mentioned about mixing up "increase" and "decrease" - including in a test question - is something we need to investigate. That's a legitimate accuracy issue. Thank you for the detailed feedback, and we appreciate you choosing Defensive Drivers Institute!

It was very easy to access and understand. However sometimes threading everything and watching the videos was quicker than the allowed time and I would have to wait a while to go to the next lesson. Also I wish it showed the correct answer with the question you get wrong.
Response from Defensive Drivers InstituteAug 10, 2026
Thank you for your 4-star review, Allison! We're glad you found the course very easy to access and understand. Regarding the wait times between lessons, those timers are mandated by state regulations to ensure students spend the minimum required time on each section. We wish we could adjust this for faster readers like yourself, but we're required to follow these guidelines. As for showing correct answers to questions you get wrong, New York State regulations require that we don't reveal answers since students are allowed multiple attempts to pass. We understand this would be helpful for learning, but it's a state requirement we must follow to remain an approved provider. We appreciate your understanding of these limitations, and thank you for choosing Defensive Drivers Institute!

Good for cheap
Cheap good information only thing that needs to be changed is the BAC content for dui n dwi cops will arrest you for .04 or .05 if they feel like it
Response from Defensive Drivers InstituteAug 5, 2026
Thank you for your 4-star review, Gabriel! We're glad you found the course cheap and the information good overall. If there is anything else we could've done to earn that 5th star, let us know. Your feedback about the BAC content for DUI/DWI is valid. You're right that law enforcement can make arrests for impairment at BAC levels lower than the legal limit of .08. We appreciate you pointing this out, as accuracy in this important topic matters. Our content follows the guidelines set by the NYS DMV for approved courses, but your specific feedback about this discrepancy is worth reviewing. Thank you for choosing Defensive Drivers Institute!

Great course
Great information! I just read a little faster then the suggested time so I didn’t like the fact I had to be waiting for the time to go by before continuing to the next lesson. There were lessons that repeated themselves and I could seem to move forward with it allowing the time to go by . Those glitches were annoying but other than that great course. Took me about 6 hours to finish instead of the 4 hours , for awkward reasons!

Thank you for your 4-star review! We're glad you found the information great, and we appreciate you sharing specific feedback about your experience. Regarding the timers that require you to wait before continuing to the next lesson, those are mandated by state regulations. We wish we didn't have to enforce them, especially for faster readers like yourself, but we're required to follow these guidelines. We know it can be frustrating when you're ready to move forward. If there's anything else we could have done to earn that 5th star, please let us know. Thank you for choosing Defensive Drivers Institute and drive safely!

The course is a Minimum 5 hours
The course is a Minimum 5 hours. However, 10-15 hours are actually required to complete.
Response from Defensive Drivers InstituteMay 28, 2026
Thank you for your 4-star review. We understand your concern about the time discrepancy between the advertised 5 hours and the actual completion time. The 5-hour minimum refers to the instructional content mandated by the New York State DMV. However, the full course also includes multiple knowledge checks and assessments throughout, as well as the state-required timers between sections. These additional components do add to the overall completion time. Thank you for choosing Defensive Drivers Institute and drive safely!
