Culture Discovery VacationsReviews of culturediscovery.com

Culture Discovery Vacations (CDV) is a boutique experiential travel company that turns small groups of travelers into temporary locals. Co-founded in 2006 by Michael and Paola Kovnick, CDV today operates small-group cultural and culinary journeys across Italy, Sicily, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Argentina, and Uruguay. We are a direct tour operator with our own on-the-ground infrastructure in every destination - not a reseller - serving both private travelers (B2C) and corporate, incentive, and event clients (MICE).Our approach is simple: the best travel comes from participating, not spectating. Guests cook alongside home cooks, harvest with farmers and fishermen, learn from local artisans, share family tables, and join community traditions they could never access on their own or with any other operator. Groups stay small and itineraries stay unhurried, because depth - not volume - is the point. This is more than a philosophy; it's a documented economic structure. A 19-year operating study published in 2025 found that CDV retains more than 70% of guest spending within the local economies it visits, making it a leading working example of anti-extractive tourism. That commitment to genuine connection shows up in the numbers: a 42% guest return rate and 300%+ post-COVID growth, achieved while remaining entirely debt-free and self-funded.CDV holds a Tripadvisor Hall of Fame designation and the 2025 Travel Weekly Magellan Gold Award for Best Service. Our team of 50+ works across operating offices in Tampa, Florida; Soriano nel Cimino, Italy; and Porto, Portugal. CDV is led by founder and CEO Michael Kovnick, a Certified Travel Industry Executive (CTIE), and operated by Culture Discovery Inc.
