The app is difficult to use. The events say full when they are not and you have to use a different link to register. Also no one monitors the “ask a question” part. They are not advertised well and could be planned better with more information available. Honestly, I have nothing positive to say about Common in general. Nothing is done well and it is made to seem that it is the residents fault when that is clearly not the case. Shall I go on? Lol.

Common is an ok place to live but I am disappointed with the customer service.
If I could rate the individuals I've dealt with at Common, they would receive mixed reviews. I recently dealt with Samantha when trying to pay my rent, and she deserves a five out of five stars. She was responsive to my emails, easy to deal with and processed my case with urgency.
However, the ticketing system made this a lengthy and frustrating process, as to initially get in touch with someone was nearly impossible. I received an email from someone called Herson informing me to pay my rent, but when I responded looking for some help, I received no response for about two weeks and tried emailing multiple times.
I also have filed a ticket for a room transfer, and been in communications with someone called Julie. I have received no updates for nearly two weeks and tried emailing multiple times. But Samantha did inform me that my case is being processed after I asked her. But otherwise, how would I have known. However, I am disappointed about my room transfer as, like I told Julie, the appeal of staying at Common was the ease in transfer if I were unhappy. I also specifically asked not to live with a couple and am now doing so.

THE WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE
THE WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. PLEASE AVOID.
Common Living in Jersey City, micro apartment is an option for short term living. It was meeting my needs.
However, the difficult relationship with the property management company, Common Living, started right at the beginning, during the application process. There was no way to get information from Common on the status of my application. No reply to my requests. They give 24 hours to complete the check-in with full of bugs in their system. The address didn’t exist for their insurance. For the payment of my 1st month of rent and security deposit, their third party app was requesting my bank credentials, user name and password – can you believe! – to establish my account with them. Luckily or unluckily, I was able to process the payment manually, without providing my bank credentials.
Then the HELL started. Trying to get in touch with someone is a NIGHTMARE. To summarize:
1. For my July payment, it took forever to get information on how to submit my rent payments. Never able to talk to anyone. No reply to my requests. The app on the portal was always prompting me for my bank credentials, which I refused to give. Finally, I got information for a bank account to send a wire transfer payment. It was not the right account!
2. For my September payment, I begged them to give the full information that I needed in order to process my wire transfer payment. Once again no reply, nothing. Therefore, I processed the payment to the first account. It took a month and a half to post my payment.
3. For my October payment, I finally got further information and I processed my payment to the account that I was instructed to use on 1 October. My payment is still not being acknowledged as of 4 November 2021. Once again, I have tried to get information on the status of my payment, raising service tickets on the portal. NOTHING. But the money is out from my bank account, lost it seems in the big black hole of Common Collections department.
4. A week ago, their bank confirmed to my bank that the money was received. A week later, I’m still waiting!
5. Going through that process was such a frustrating experience, demonstrating a complete LACK OF RESPECT for their tenants.
6. Their Help Centre is USELESS.
Common as a property management company is completely DISORGANIZED and TECHNOCRATIC. Note that the owner of the building changed the property management company at the end of October, which a good indication of the low satisfaction level that they had with Common. What a difference it makes! The new company was able to resolve my October payment in 10 minutes this morning!

Common is horrible
Edit: I can’t reply to Common’s reply so I’ll write here. I have spoken to so many members of your “team” and every rep is not at all helpful. I write at least 2 emails every week and have since I’ve lived at Common. I’m sick and tired of writing emails with nothing ever being done regarding mine and my roommates’ concerns.

Management Can't Manage
Any place that promotes 5-star reviews on their site to then find so many 1-star reviews on Trustpilot is clearly not to be trusted. Checked in 10 days back, electronic locks don't work on the building so no access. And they're still 'working on it.' Told multiple times by multiple staff members they are working on it and I'd be phoned. Nada. Pool has been locked for 10 days as well (perhaps before then?) Management is clearly not managing. A case perhaps of buying too many properties with no clue/capacity to actually MANAGE. Will be withholding rent, as that's the only option it seems. Tho perhaps in COMMON'S ineptitude, they won't notice. DON'T lease with them.
UPDATE: Pool still locked and closed, and it's half the back area - no updates, no communication to residents, but I'm sure it's still used in marketing, yes? Of late, mass leaking has washed out hallways. Old building, maybe not your problem - but even your replying Nov 12 from a review on Oct 19? Appreciate that you responded @ least, Cassi, tho with no real substance or recourse other than assured 'escalating' of concerns? Common has a ton of work to do. Suggest maybe you all not put reviews on your site until you figure how to do a better job @ CSR if not managing properties.
Good luck.

If I could give common zero stars I…
If I could give common zero stars I would. Common opened a new building in national city San Diego area. I reserved a room which they assured me if you reserve no one else can apply while they go over your application. It takes a week for them to review my stuff. Fast forward to the day I got my approval email, someone calls to say somebody else already signed a lease to the apartment I had on hold. Trying to get my hold deposit back ($300) has been a nightmare, as they don't ever reply or call you back. Stay away, very unprofessional.

My experience with the leasing agents at Linea by Common
My experience with the leasing agents at Linea by Common, located in Downtown Chicago has been a living nightmare. I applied for a rental unit at this property in late Sept 2021. I am a practicing RN, have been for 40 yrs. I have worked for Franciscan Health for the past 12 years. I did some travel nursing as well so I decided we, my daughter and I would share an apartment in the downtown area. I was notified by email that I was approved for the apartment of which I applied. Unfortunately I was scheduled to work the day of the tour. For this reason I sent my daughter to view it on my behalf. We share the same first name. She was shown the apartment, but was never asked for an ID. The apartment was fine and she was informed the lease had to be signed by midnight. She called me at work to inform me of this. Shortly after she was approached by Melissa, the lead leasing agent and her assistant. She was then informed that more documentation was required in order to verify my employment history and income. So I stopped working and spent my much needed break time, resubmitting documentation they should have already verified; Only for her to be told that the application was now being denied due to their inability to verify my work history and income. They called her a fraud and stated there was no recourse to this decision. The following day we attempted yet again to get clarification on this matter Only to be hung up or our have our calls purposely ignored. We did finally get someone in the executive accounts office who stated they were notifying an Account executive by the name of Geo and he would return our call. This did not happen. By Saturday 10/9 we were informed by the on-site leasing agent that our concerns would be escalated and we would here from the Corporate leasing division. But of course this never happened either. The treatment we’ve been shown is unacceptable. This is defamation of character at minimal. The fact that I have reached out multiple times via email to Commons’ Regional and Corporate leasing departments and have yet to receive an appropriate response saddens me. This was an error on their part and it should be acknowledged. It should also be communicated to those within this Corporation that may truly care about their reputation and see the importance of corrective actions.
Sincerely,
DeLinda Wakil- Robinson RN

Common "Nightmare" : A Veritable Turn-key FAIL
Oooof… Where.To.Begin. This company leaves me wanting to throat punch mannequins—how about there?! I began drafting a review about a month before move-out as the living experience took a turn once Common Living acquired Starcity. What might have been couched as new building growing pains, fast proved to be corporate incompetence, tenant disregard by an outgoing team, and tenant negligence by an incoming one. Increasingly as residents began to interact, there seemed to be consistency between our poor experiences. And indeed, looking online one doesn’t read far before discovering a long, distinguished list of complaints and negative reviews—community after community, house after house, month after month. The feedback is constant. The experience is crap. Things don’t change—sales team notwithstanding! They are the lifeblood of this outfit, but all that glitters is not gold. What becomes clear in these reviews is how short-lived & single-minded their value is of you (the tenant) once you’ve signed. (Spoiler alert: None!) Common "Nightmare" is a veritable turn-key fail.
Like so many other reviewers, I suffered the endless frustration of a feckless member support team, ineffectual communications, unkempt common spaces, lingering / never resolved loss-of-use issues, non-existent supplies, and an otherwise constant barrage of interruption / inconvenience to simple home life. (See further Trust Pilot, Yelp or Reddit. Better Business Bureau and sidebar of the New York Times likely to come!)
Ostensibly, Common Living's online presence and concept-peddling is inviting…However, their self-aggrandizing “Member” concept is over-inflated and underdelivering. To be clear, my suite never received “essentials like soap and toilet paper”. The "well-maintained kitchen and tastefully furnished living room” leave much to be desired...and to the imagination: like how a plurality of suite-mates is to cook dinner at the same time with the same pan, no bowls, and a kitchen dance space seemingly modeled from Spirit Airlines. Fortunately, there were only two of us in the juggle-struggle—could not imagine a full house. Speaking of “house", "free utilities", "weekly cleaning" and "hassle free living”… From my experience again, I would edit to something truer the mark. Your private bedroom is more akin to living in a fish bowl given the numberless tours they’ll take through the space. Just imagine that for a minute in say, hoteling. You book a $200/night room only to have concierge running through a stream of the next night’s interested parties?! (Raging pandemic be damned, mind you.) To continue: no functional A/C must be the "free utilities" bit. And “weekly cleaning" is a negligible blink-and-you-missed-it effort as others have highlighted. Finally, the fact we couldn’t receive packages during our 3 month tenancy (a Covid-work-from-home tenancy, mind you), well—it was quite a “hassled" living, in fact.
Finally to cap all, I also spent two weeks-plus laying daily chase for my delinquent security deposit—some six weeks after having vacated per terms. It took serving an official demand letter (requisite step in pursuit of Small Claims) in order to receive my security deposit. For a company so dogged in throwing the book at tenants to retrieve THEIR money or exercise the finer points of THEIR contract, well again— personal experience and past reviews all align: this accountability is a one-way street. (It’s also rather shameful and derelict to neglect timely tenant remittance in this economy and climate!)
For quick reference, I’ll break down PROs / CONs of Alexandria–LA below, but if it’s not already sufficiently clear: my succinct advice would be to forego the Common Living snake-oil. There is nothing overly accommodating much less exceptional about this model. They are a feckless bunch, the whole lot of them...negligent, in-ept, unsympathetic, slothful and derelict in their tenant responsibility and issue-resolution. And, you will pay for this in every stretch of the word.
• PROs: new bldg, garage parking, new appliances, firm bed, nice 360 roof-top
• CONs: sm kitchen & poorly outfitted; limited storage; supplies never furnished nor replaced; housecleaning is negligible (8-10mins tops); common spaces in bldg never cleaned (e.g. roof top bbq & tables, hallways, stairwells, elevators, side/back entries…all filthy)
• FLAGs unique to this residence: no mail package delivery, no buzz-in entry for door deliveries; no functional A/C in unit during our tenancy (and no loss-of-use consideration either); extremely loud neighbors (surrounded by fenced in German Shepherds, yapping pocket dogs, chickens, and neighbor consistently blasting music before 7am and after 1130 pm.
