What I find weird is that Common takes the time to respond to my earlier review with "Our team will be in touch with you to discuss your situation." but doesn't actually follow up with me... Im still waiting

DO NOT RENT FROM COMMON. Worst living experience of my life. I could go on and on about the long list of issues I’ve had living with them. But to highlight a few, they locked me out of my apartment because they screwed up on the terms of my lease and thought I had already moved out when I still had a month left, and they were incredibly rude when I tried to contact them to have this issue fixed. They’re impossible to get in touch with to have property issues fixed, and any emergency issues they always just say “we’ll communicate this to our team” and then NOTHING ever gets done. They’re the most unprofessional and poorly communicated leasing team I’ve ever seen. I promise you will have a horrible experience living at any of their locations. They get you because the apartments are nice, but the terrible management IS NOT worth it, I promise you.

My wife had inspected and agreed to lease a unit at Common Madison in Seattle in early August 2021. She signed the lease, paid first and last months’ rent as well as other fees. Two weeks later, she received a phone call from one of the admissions team saying the unit was not available due to prior commitments. She was given the option of leasing another unit at Common Summit located at 1722 Summit Ave in Seattle instead. She accepted with the understanding that the unit would be comparable. On August 28th, we were in the process of moving her to the Summit unit #307. The neighborhood was not comparable to the Madison location. It had no elevators, no view, poor lighting, and a quick check of registered sex offenders revealed a total of 15 within a one-block radius. A similar review of the Madison property revealed zero. Not a single day or night has ever been spent by us at either unit. I find it interesting that our daughter, under her married name, looked into the Common Madison property on September 1, 2021, and was told that a unit was available. My wife was never offered another unit in the same complex. We suspect that this may be an instance of a bait and switch tactic. Since September 1, we have repeatedly tried to contact the Common “team” and have had no success. When they respond, they typically state that our questions/concerns are being transferred to another “team member” who never responds. We had an appointment with a Commons representative for a phone consultation regarding the termination of the lease on September 10, 2021, and she did not honor the meeting nor offer an explanation. We have been trying to negotiate with the Commons team in good faith, but they don’t seem to be communicating internally or are just trying to wear us down. We have extensive records of communication efforts we have made to Commons to resolve this situation, but as stated before, we are told that another “team member” will contact us and then we are ignored. At this point we have paid Commons $4,090.77. We finally opened a dispute case with Visa and some funds were returned to us and future charges frozen. At this point, Commons still owes us $2,290.77 We are considering legal action to cease the continuing billing for a unit that has never been occupied. Apparently, Common has recently contacted the King County eviction prevention and rent assistance office to apply for assistance to pay for a bill that is not valid. Any legal counsel charges we incur will be added to the funds we have not been reimbursed by Common.

If I could put a zero I would, this company is like a used car salesman bate and switch. If your not willing to pay $1500 don’t bother the false $1004 is a bate to get calls, they string you along if you did get the grand prize of the lessor rent with a shared bathroom 🚽 your lucky otherwise look at Eddy there’s more options for the price Common is charging, the clue is if you can afford $250 more oh and another $250 more you can rent from common otherwise look elsewhere if I could give 0 review I would

I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews posted here, and stayed away. This review is for the i5 Union building in D.C. , where I live. I want to say upfront that the building itself is very nice, and the building manager, Triston, and staff are helpful. But their billing office is a non-responsive nightmare, as others have commented below. I paid the first month's rent upfront when I signed the lease (as is normal) and most of my application fee was also supposed to be applied to the rent. But come the first of the month after the lease began, I was charged in full; the payments I made earlier were simply erased from my account. As a result, I was charged for about $2000 more than I owed. I have repeatedly filed help desk tickets and sent emails about the overcharge 3 weeks ago, but it does no good. Tickets are closed without any communication to me or resolution (although I attached the receipts for my payments), and after the first email I sent, they simply stopped responding. So it looks like they took $2000 that they were not entitled to, and just won't respond. Bottom line: unless you like the building so much that you're willing to risk paying thousands more than you should owe, think twice about Common.

Honestly it is very very bad. There is nobody here to help us out in the building. No office or manager whom we can walk upto.

Made an account just for this review. I only livid in common for 3 months, but that time was terrible enough for a one star review. The actual place was fine except for the fact that the dumpster was only taken out monthly and was allowed to overflow. The common billing team is very hard to come into contact with and does a bad job of fixing any issues you have. Also, the keys fail to work about ~20% of the time locking you out unless someone is already inside. In my three months at common I had multiple issues with billing that are really unacceptable. The second months rent was charged to my account twice. It took me several days of messaging support to get this fixed. Common has also not returned my security deposit in the necessary 21 days by California law, despite my repeatedly contacting them about it. Completely unacceptable billing practices. EDIT in response to the reply: The claim that I did not tell Common my forwarding address is completely untrue. I informed common of my forwarding address twice before the 21 days was up. I have still not received my security deposit and will be sure to update this review when I do.

Very terrible experience. I called in advanced to schedule a tour. Of course i ask the woman a lot of questions because I didn’t want to waste my time when i went to see the actual place. She said the monthly would be 1,400. The deposit was one months rent. There was no credit requirements as they are for affordable living. And that i would get 2 months of rent for free. The moment i meet up with the guy who was giving us a tour of the BEI (His name is Christopher Desponds) it all started good. But the hotel turned into studio living was in terrible condition. I guess they allowed pets and there was pee all over the outdoor area. You can feel how hot and musty it was in the building and the ceiling was chipping off and you saw pieces of it on the floor. There were stains everywhere and on the beds there were blood stains. The best part of it all. Was that the room was actually 1700. Christopher blamed it on these people in the Philippines getting it wrong( mind you im filipino) but the parking for the hotel was 230 a month. So 1930 in total. For no kitchen and a very small room. BUT in total if i was dumb enough to actually lease that place for 12 months. I wouldve paid more than 2,000. Not including the application fee AND the 300 dollar fee they hold until your application is finalized. Which you’ll get the rest of the money back ONLY after the two free months are over.
