⚠️ CHICAGO-AREA CONSUMERS: PLEASE RESEARCH COFFEY BROS. MOVING BEFORE BOOKING I'm posting this because I wish I had known what I know now before hiring Coffey Bros. Moving in Westchester, Illinois. I was originally quoted $2,555.84 for my move. I ultimately paid $4,227.33. My move involved only 604 cubic feet of belongings and very little furniture—no couches or beds. I was charged hundreds of dollars for additional moving materials and services, including charges that I dispute and did not believe I had knowingly authorized. I'm not asking anyone to simply take my word for it. Before hiring this company, please do your own research. Search for: • Coffey Bros. Moving complaints • Coffey Bros. They will hold your items until you pay.

Like everyone else here, they quoted me 950.00 for our move, they then told us when the items were on the truck, our total would be 2300.00. They told me I needed to Zelle the money which I refused. They had a credit card on file. I researched the company after and found all of these complaints and the ABC news investigation on this company.

My experience with Coffey Brothers Moving is they provided a very competitive estimate but then the final bill was over $1,200 more than the estimate for moving a 1 bedroom condo approximately 50 miles. And they said they wouldn’t bring anything from the truck into the new residence until they were paid in full. And they said they would not take a check, money order or cashiers check and made it difficult to pay by credit card. They wanted payment in cash or by Zell. I’m guessing they do this because when they provide the shocking real cost to move a customer, they know some customers will refuse to pay or try to cancel payment. You can’t cancel a Zell or cash payment. Your money is gone. I found it especially disturbing that I was totally upfront about what the move involved, (e.g. three flights of stairs, approximately one hour drive time between the origin and destination locations) but they didn’t add these charges onto the estimate they gave one day before the move. They only informed me of these charges the day of the move. In the used car sales world, this is called “bait and switch”, a very sleazy business practice. The day of the move, they also told me I needed to pay them a $300 “stairs fee” right then in cash. I needed to send my wife out to an ATM to get that money. And then when we got to the destination where there was an elevator in the building they charged a “$100” elevator fee. On the plus side the movers themselves were very professional, courteous and worked fast. I was handing this move for an 86 year old relative with dementia with limited income who is moving from her condo into an assisted living facility. I wonder how the Coffey Brothers Moving sales people sleep at night knowing they are using deceptive business practices to gouge vulnerable people. I would never use Coffey Brothers Moving again. The price I ended up paying was around 3 times their estimate. I consider them to be highly unethical.

WARNING! DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE SCAMMERS! ZERO STARS! I initially thought that this moving company would be great considering their response time and affordable prices, but was I WRONG... My partner had booked with them and had the most anxiety ridden, most expensive move ever and keep in mind that this was a small 1 bedroom move. Her "final" estimate came out to over 3 times the original, in which none of the overages were her fault. Lazy and slow movers used an unnecessary amount of materials to increase costs and time to charge her more. They damaged some items and even had the audacity to ask for more tip at the end. This company, if you can even call it that, is basically the moving mafia and will hold your possessions hostage until you pay their inflated estimate that you were unaware of. Hidden costs and lies are their racket so be weary. They are not transparent at all. Their website says one thing then the "manager" says another so they can keep your money. I cancelled my booking with them and tried to get my deposit back of $250. Their website clearly states "Yes, a small refundable deposit is typically required to secure your moving date. The deposit amount will be applied toward your final bill. This ensures that your time slot and moving crew are reserved exclusively for you." WELL...that was a lie! The manager tells me the deposit is not refundable and now I am out $250 because they are a dishonest scammers. 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Was quoted $507 on the phone to move one sofa, two recliners, one queen bed (mattress/box spring/headboard), two lamps, one coffee table, and a few end tables. After waiting at the drop off site for over two hours (the pickup site was approximately 6 miles away, same town), I was told that the balance due — after already having paid a $250 deposit — was $1533.17. After some back and forth between myself and the drivers (in person) and myself and my husband (via text), I agreed to pay the $1533.17 via Zelle. I showed them my confirmation page that the Zelle payment had gone through. We called our bank, BMO, and they said it had cleared and that it was with Bank of America. They STILL would not release our items, and we wound up having to pay an ADDITIONAL $1781.22 and was assured that we would receive a refund for the $1533.17. The local police were involved as well, and were present for the second payment amount. Nearly 24 hours later, I have yet to receive the refund that is owed to me and will likely have to contact the police again.

Coffey Bros turned my move into a complete mess. They arrived a day early and said they could not return on the day that was actually scheduled, forcing me to blow up my plans and move on their terms. During the move, one of the workers told me he was high. They then dropped my TV, broke glass, and chipped quality furniture. At that point, the whole thing crossed from bad service into reckless behavior. They failed on scheduling, failed on care, and failed on basic professionalism. Based on my experience, I would not trust them with anything I care about.

UPDATE: After being OVERCHARGED $1200 THIS SCAM COMPANY REFUNDED $96. BEWARE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY....... STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I JUST MOVED QUEEN BED, NIGHTSTAND AND 5 BOXES. I WAS QUOTED $575. I WAS CHARGED $1746! THERE IS NO PERSONNEL TO SPEAK TO I HAVE TO SEND EVERYTHING THROUGH EMAIL TO CLAIMS. WE WILL BE REPORTING THIS TO THE BBB AND POSTING EVERYWHERE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

Absolute bait-and-switch scam. Avoid this company. I was originally quoted $611 over the phone, but once the movers arrived the price suddenly jumped to $2,800. When I questioned the increase, the movers threatened to take my belongings to storage and charge me a daily storage fee if I didn’t pay the full $2,800 upfront. I was told they would not unload my items unless payment was made immediately, leaving me with no real choice after everything was already on their truck. This move was only 6 miles, from a storage locker in Lisle to my home in Downers Grove, IL. The crew insisted on rewrapping nearly everything due to “company policy,” even after I told them not to, while simultaneously limiting their liability coverage. The same items had been moved into storage earlier that month by Two Men and a Truck without any issues. I was also charged $100 for treadmill disassembly, despite the treadmill still being fully assembled in my garage today. The company later falsely claimed I only disclosed five boxes, which is completely inaccurate — I fully described the contents of the storage unit beforehand. Instead of attempting to resolve the situation, I later received a threatening letter from their legal department. This was one of the most stressful and dishonest service experiences I’ve ever had. I strongly recommend avoiding this company.
