Spectrum - Unreliable Internet Service - No Customer Service
I have been a long term customer with Spectrum with internet and tv service, however the internet service is unreliable and continues to increase in price. I have numerous internet service outages happening every week for months, which negatively affect my home based business. Spectrum does nothing to discount these outages, or correct the root cause of the issue. So, customers like me are paying for an intermittent service vs. a continuous service as advertised. I have called numerous times, however customer service just reads a "canned-response" to the customer with no resolution.

Avoid this company! Terrible company that doesn't care about customers
Spectrum is a terribly run business with equally terrible service. I'm a small business owner who relies on my internet connection. I have experienced multiple outages during business hours, making it impossible for me to stay open. When I reported these outages I was told that I would receive statement credits. Those credits never came, and when I've called back I was then told there were no outages that occured. This is such immense gaslighting!
The rates go up every year, which wasn't communicated with my sales rep, but was burried in a massive contract. And the notifications that rates will increase get burried in a multi page monthly statement, which I was forced to opt into the electronic version vs paper to be charged the rate I was told I would pay each month, vs a higher montyhly rate.
Customer service is terrible. Only through the cancellation process do I speak to anyone who actually tried to resolve my concerns. But by then it was too late.
I spoke to different cancellation reps 3 times after notifying them of cancellation to attempt to get detailed information on how to return my equipment, and what equipment they are looking for. Each time I was told I would receive an email on my cancellation date. No email came, so I had to take charge and call them again. Multiple 60+ minute hold phone calls and being passed around have led to me needing to drive an hour plus to a physical store to figure this out.
Never choose this company if you can avoid it! Bad service, bad response, bad business practices.

Just found out today that they raised my bill by $10.00 and never told me
Just found out today that they raised my Internet price by $10.00, and I was never told or warned about the raise. So I called them to find out that my speed, which is 500, was cut by 100, so I called them, and if they don't like what you say, they hang up on you, not just once but twice, then they tell you they were disconnected. They lie and say they were disconnected. Spectrum is the worst. I'm retired on a limited income; they just don't care. They should just pack up and leave and stop ripping us off. They need to be investigated!!!

They dont bill you for 30 days of…
They dont bill you for 30 days of service, i started my plan jan 22 and i was told that there would be a $70 bill for new service fee, after a week i got a bill for $70 plus the $40 for a full month of serice even thoigh it was like a week on, so i continued serice thinking okay maybe they jus billed a full month so i dont hv to worry about this bill again till feb 22nd im counting 30 days of service from jan 22- feb 22 but no on jan 9th i got billed $70 plus $40 plus $40 they said that they charge based on the billing cycle not how many days its been on so i had to pay the $80 for one month of service plus $70 connection fee— march 9 again another $80 bill plus tax when they said it was $40 even with tax included— even though jan 22 the day i signed up from feb 22 was jus one month n paid in full on the 9th of march i hv anothr $80 bill which is 2 1/2 weeks before the 22nd of march being another 30
Days of service charged in adavance!!! They will do this n hv done this every month demand payment 2/3 weeks of service before the full 30 days has been used of internet only… so if u want to be billed 30 days of internet 2/3 weeks before u even use there internet go
Ahead n sign up, u will
See that ur paying them two momths of service in a 30 day service used bill— i hv complained about this number lf times n they say its jus the way they bill—3 weeks before its due that i can jus pay $40 now n pay the other later on — that how they keep u at a late fee n make there money, also they would not remove a service that was added to my account $25 extra with out my consent it was a additional latin trail pacakage even thoigh it said 30 day free trial n i found out it was added tem days later tried to remove it n they said no that i needed to pay $56 instead of $40 in order for them to
Adjust my bill
N remove this pacakage n there for disconnected me until i pay for a plan i did not ask for — i do not recommend them the service is terrible n they push there plans bye asking u to sign up
When u dont want there extra phone or cable stuff 😡

I told them I wouldn’t write this…
I told them I wouldn’t write this review if they would at least pro-rated my bill after 13+ years of being a customer, but here we are (I hope that $5 was worth it). I'm writing this just to help people who have to interact with Spectrum/Charter:
For people looking at/comparing ISPs: Pay attention to the vocabulary they use. For instance, on internet packages, they say “fiber-powered.” This is because they were sued for false advertising. You aren’t getting true fiber. The upload speed will not match the download speed, and you aren’t getting the reliability of fiber either. Expect outages. The prices they offer you are just for the first year; then, they double or triple what their competitors offer. You can get them to drop the price, but you will have to call and beg or complain until you find someone to lower it for you. This will be an every-single-year process. If you must have cable TV, look into YouTube TV or other options. It is cheaper, better quality, and more reliable.
Cancelling Services: I have cancelled my own service and have helped a couple of neighbors cancel theirs. We tried being friendly and honest—we said we were moving to another country—and we tried being short and blunt. This is going to be hard for some people, but unfortunately, if you don’t want to be on the phone for an hour, you are going to have to be rude and just shut them down. I hate writing this because I used to work in customer service, but their policies force it. Finally, try to return your equipment to a UPS Store to avoid waiting an hour in line at their storefronts. Keep the return receipt for a year, because they are known to try to come back after you for equipment costs.

I have on my credit report a bill for…
I have on my credit report a bill for like almost $1,000 from Spectrum mobile telling me that I need to pay them but they're wrong and they recording their own phone calls so it's got to be in there and I told them that and I went through and wrote down all the employees' names and times because now I'm upset and I said this is what day I talk to this person you need to look it up you can't tell me I'm wrong and all those things are recorded you know and he gave me his name and number and everything and they said well he can't promise you this well he did and he ordered it and you sent me the wrong phone I did not order this phone you even called me a million times this month and said is your phone working like I don't understand how I'm so sorry you know you will get your your phone will get you your phone they never did and that was it and I kept bothering him and I'm just like I don't owe you this money I told you you know we had a deal workout no and why should I pay for a phone bill after my phone's not working you said it yourself it doesn't work and so why is this no I'm fighting this because they promised me that they would make the phone right and that they would not charge me until the phone was hooked back up so we are at a zero balance but now you're messing with my credit and you know you're lying I proved it to you

A Year of Overpaying and a Final "Exit…
A Year of Overpaying and a Final "Exit Fee"
Summary: The service itself is okay, but the corporate greed and cancellation hurdles are unbearable.
I finally managed to disconnect my Spectrum service last night, and it was a grueling experience. I spent the last year trying to negotiate a fair rate, only to be frustrated by the long wait times and security codes I needed. The moment I finally get through to cancel, they suddenly "discover" a $45 promotional rate—the exact price I had been hoping for while they were busy overcharging me.
To add insult to injury, because I was three days into my billing cycle, they are forcing me to pay for the entire month. That’s $90 for service I’m not even using. They also make the process intentionally difficult by, on multiple occasions within the same call, requiring a phone call and "security codes" rather than offering a simple online disconnect route like any modern company should.
The only reason this isn't a zero-star review is the representative, Tony the rep last night was somewhat apologetic and helped me calm down, but it was clear he had to read through the mandatory scripts the company forces him to use.
I’ve finally switched to Google Fiber. After a year of dealing with Spectrum's outages, "loyalty tax," and refusal to pro-rate my final bill, the transparency and ease of a fiber provider is a massive relief. Don't wait as long as I did—save your money and skip the headache. But reserve an afternoon when you are very calm and don't expect it to be easy.
