BEWARE- BAIT & SWITCH
BEWARE. SCAMMERS- BAIT AND SWITCH. My elderly parents came to visit me for a month after moving to Europe. They booked a car rental with Car Rental Express and paid with their travel credit card, which offers full rental car insurance. When they got to the pick up counter, the guy said they have to pay $2000 for rental insurance. I pulled up their card membership agreement and card benefit proof of primary insurance, which clearly states they have full, primary rental car coverage for up to 31 days outside of their domiciled country. Then he said, they have to get an international driver permit and a passport. They have a passport, but I told them that in the state of Florida an international driver permit is not a requirement for drivers from the country they're residents of. He then stated since they have a FL license (they do because they recently moved to Europe and their US ids are still valid), he's not going to accept anything and that I can add them to my personal car insurance and then they can use that as primary insurance. I don't have personal car insurance, so that would not work. He said this was all in the contract about the intl. permit etc, which it is absolutely not. I asked to speak to his manager and he said he is the owner so there is no one to speak to. I asked for his name, and he said "Phoenix." I asked for his last name and he said "That's all you need to know." and then hung up on me. They booked this car last night and the guy's saying they're out of the money they paid for it. This is a bait and switch business and they're trying to scam foreigners and the elderly into having to buy their rental car insurance. Looking at the reviews, they're all horrid. I'm sure any good reviews are just from the guy's buddies & employees. We're reporting the business to AG.
