My CXL experience
I joined CareerXL right before starting college at UT Austin. Coming in as an incoming freshman I had no clue how investment banking recruiting actually worked. I was skeptical about the price of the program and if breaking into high finance was realistic for me. The most useful part was how involved the coaches were. They helped rebuild my resume from scratch and tore apart my behavioral answers, tweaking my "Why Banking" and story over and over until they stopped sounding scripted. The weekly technical drills, the peer group mocks, and Slack helped me meet so many driven students recruiting for the exact same seats. They even referred me to early internships that built up my resume before recruiting kicked off. If I’m being honest, what I’d change was my networking effort. CareerXL ran networking mocks, but I did not put as much effort on my cold emails while my friends in the program were grinding out hundreds a week. Even with that gap, the prep carried me. I landed an offer at an Elite Boutique, secured a PE offer, and did Superdays at top Bulge Brackets. This program is an amplifier for people willing to work. It won’t hold your hand, and it won't land offers for you if you're passive. But if you put in the work truly, it pays for itself tenfold.
