Very disappointing so far!
I have contacted 6 individuals who posted they are looking to be hired as a personal assistant. Out of the 6 I have only had one person respond. I bought into Care.com with the confidence the people posting ads were serious about looking to be hired. I want to hire the right person which is why I emailed several to interview and hire the right person. I find it very disappointing that the people who have signed up looking for jobs can't even reply to my email. I am disappointed in my investment in Care.com and faith in Care.com.
Response from Care.comJun 15, 2015
Hi M. We certainly understand wanting to hire the perfect person and hope to help in any way we can. Posting a job is a great way to reach a wide range of personal assistants in addition to reaching out to them directly. This will allow you to state exactly what you're looking for and help narrow down applicants as well. Also, every provider's profile will show the last day they logged in and their response rate to messages. This is something to keep in mind when reaching out to providers. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Reliability
I found our wonderful nanny on care.com. Unfortunately she's moving so I am looking again and finding the same problem I've had in the past. Lots of people respond, make all kinds of promises and then cancel at the last minute or just don't show. I don't know if it is the kind of job applicants the site attracts, the nature of on line applicants or a sign of the times but I've found the lack of reliability very difficult.
Response from Care.comJun 15, 2015
Hi Heather, thanks for using us again in your search for care. We understand that reliability is a top concern for families searching for caregivers. All of the provider's profiles will show when they last logged in and their response rate as well to show their activity. We also encourage all families to write a review for caregivers to share their experiences with the Care.com community.

Alot of fluff
The site is filled with much unnecessary stuff. There are many pop up windows. Many of the links are broken and do not refresh appropriately.
Response from Care.comJun 15, 2015
Hi Eli, we apologize for any inconvenience or frustrations. If you can please send us an email at [email protected] with the specific links that were not working for you, we would love to forward it to our technical team. Thanks!

BEWARE, nice set up & customer service, BUT...
My experience w/ Care.com has been rather bad! The website setup nice & their customer service support is very pleasant but I have posted 3 jobs on this site to no avail. It has essentially been a waste of money.
Their background checks are not very thorough. The only applicant I got for the three jobs i posted, was someone who was mentally disabled & had recently had CPS take her child for neglect. Also, their list of sitters/nannies is not up to date. I sent messages to at least 10 sitters/nannies that had posted on their site & only one responded that she was no longer available. For $40 a month, it was a ripoff!!!!!

Thanks for writing, Jami. Safety is a top priority at Care.com and we would like to forward the information about the provider you mentioned to our Safety team if you could please e-mail us with more information at [email protected].

Not sure what to think so far.....
Very easy to sign up, but based on the my location - Petoskey, MI - I am not sure if I am going to see the results I was hoping for based on the amount I paid for a 1 month subscriptions.
I will try to stay positive about a good response, but I am not currently happy about the resources.
Response from Care.comMay 26, 2015
Thanks for reaching out, Michelle. The availability of individual caregivers do depend based on your area but we would love to look into your account to see if there is anyway we can help. Can you please e-mail us at [email protected]? We are also sending positive vibes your way!

Limited responses
Very difficult to get people to respond. Seems like people only want full time employment. Difficult to get anyone serious about par time work to commit
Response from Care.comMay 19, 2015
Hi Jessica, we are sorry that you are experiencing difficulty finding part time help. Caregivers availability does vary by the individual. Have you tried posting a job stating specifically you are only looking for part time help? Please let us know if we can help in any way!

Very frustrating website and pushy marketing; the only upside is the size of the network.
I've had various family members and friends say they used Care.com to find nannies, so we assumed it would be good and started working with them. It's been a very frustrating experience, but I can't quite convince myself to quit because we are getting lots of applicants. Other than "it works" there's not much good I have to say about it.
Issues include:
- The messaging system is unbearable. The delete link doesn't work (from an individual message). The text field for writing messages is tiny. There's no way to "hide" an email except deleting it, at which point it is irrevocably gone forever. Email conversations with the same person get split across multiple items in the inbox. If you get a reply after deleting a message, there is no context for the message. It sends inbound messages to my personal email, so I have a record of those, but the ones I sent are missing, even from the "Sent" folder, because you can't just delete the ones you received (you are forced to delete the whole conversation). It's also a bit ironic that the candidate UI includes their rate of response for messages - I'm pretty sure low rates have more to do with the messaging UI, than with candidates.
- The up-front price is pretty high, with a strong push to buy more than you're sure you're going to need, followed by immediate upsells before you even need it (i.e. background checks), which later prove to be extremely confusing to use, and maybe there's yet another higher-tier of background checks that they haven't even tried to upsell to me. It sounds like they also charge the nannies to search/apply, so they're taking money from both ends. And the constant pressure to buy into their auto-pay service makes me not want to sign up for it just because they won't shut up about it.
- I created a job post, edited it very carefully (with no advice anywhere on their site about what a potential nanny might want to hear), and discovered the next morning that their moderators (presumably) had edited the post such that significant important details (like the expected work schedule) were totally missing. I had no notice that they did so, until applicants were asking me what the schedule was (and I was assuming that they were dumb and didn't read the post). Unacceptable.
- The site performance is slow - reliably so. And it doesn't seem to handle me having multiple tabs open at once - the inbox gets confused about which message I'm looking at, and sometimes it makes one or another tab log in again.
- The categorization of candidates into Favorites and Maybes is something I wanted to do even when I was just searching on my own, but it's pretty thoroughly hidden in that UI. Then once it moves to the fore during the "nanny applies to the job" workflow, it sometimes displays Maybes as half-hearts, and sometimes as full-hearts, making it entirely unusable.
- I tried the mobile app and it's quite responsive - how is that possible when the website is so slow? But it uses tons of screen real-estate for feel-good pictures that don't help me do what I'm trying to do. And it's really hard to keep track of which candidates are favorites and which messages are handled, so I eventually gave up and went back to the website.
- The website navigation is awful. Now that I'm fully in "job posted" mode, I don't need to see banners explaining the process, or links for other types of jobs I could post, or banners prompting me to start new searches. What I need (and are missing) are links to Favorites, Maybes, and Inbox.
- The Inbox needs to just be "all mail" and be one line per candidate, and group the lines by favorites / maybes / new / declined (and I'm sure there are others). There should be no such thing as "delete" - just "hide".
I'm pretty sure there's more, but that's all I remember.
Care.com team - I'm a software product manager; I know you can do better than this. I assume you have a record of who posted this; if so, please feel free to contact me to discuss any of it further.

Hi Nathan,
First I would like to say, thank you very much for detailing your experience. Your feedback is extremely important to us and I will absolutely make sure our Product Development team is aware of your experience. With that said, we are thrilled to hear "it's working" and you are receiving responses to your applications. I will be happy to address your concerns where I can.
1) Deleting email messages is somewhat of a new feature and I appreciate your feedback about your inability to delete a message from the individual message. You can however, delete messages by going to your inbox and deleting the message from there. When sending a message, you are able to expand the text box by clicking and dragging the bottom right hand corner. In regards, to hiding a message, that is an excellent point and idea and I will share this with our team. Yes, you are correct, once a message has been deleted we are unable to restore the message however, we do have access to deleted messages. If you accidentally delete a message just let us know and we will be happy to send that information to you. Please note that all successfully sent messages will appear in your sent folder of your Care.com account. If it's not there then that would indicate that the message has not been sent. Lastly, a caregiver's response rating is based on all of their responses to incoming messages. If they receive a message that does not necessarily require a response unfortunately, our system still calculates those messages into their rating.
2) We do offer promotional codes to help defray the cost of a membership and we also offer 3 different membership packages with different pricing options. The longer term memberships are significantly less, and are billed upfront. Since this is a subscription service memberships do renew automatically. You can cancel at anytime by downgrading your account or by letting us know and we will be happy to take care of that for you! We also offer different levels of background checks and detailed information about these checks can be found in our Safety Center. If you have specific questions about these checks you can always email or call us anytime for assistance. Please be advised that caregivers are not required to pay in order to search for and apply to jobs however, we do offer a Premium Membership that they can take advantage of, but again it's not required.
3) When writing a job post, we do review all posts and will remove only personal information such as school names, last names, street names, etc. Scheduling information would not be removed. I apologize if you had trouble with this and again, if you did experience issues with getting your job approved correctly were are here to help and you can call, email us or even message us on Facebook anytime for help. Additionally, we do have many helpful articles on our site and they can be found under the "Advice" tab. One of the articles available is 6 tips for writing a babysitter job description: https://www.care.com/a/6-tips-for-writing-a-babysitter-job-description-1208060247
4) I apologize if you experienced a slow site performance. We have not received any reports about this however, we will look into this for you. Please note that some internet browsers do work better than others and I would encourage you to change browsers and try using Firefox or Google Chrome, as we have found that Internet Explorer doesn't function as well with our site as the others do. If you continue to have trouble please don't hesitate to contact us. We are always here and happy to help anytime.
5) When searching for caregivers you can mark potential candidates as favorites by clicking the heart. You can then see all of your favorites, maybes, recently viewed, etc. by either clicking on the "My Caregivers" link located on the left panel of your screen, or by clicking the green "My Care.com" tab located on the top left side or your screen and select "My Caregivers". From there you will have the ability to see all of your caregivers and change them from "Favorites" to "Maybe's" and visa versa.
6) Again, we have not received any reports about our site performance being slow, but we will continue to look into this for you. The mobile app and full site are different and the mobile app does not house all of the feature as our full site, but I thank you for sharing your experience and feedback. We are always trying to improve our mobile app and will look into these issues for you.
7) We promote these other features on our site so you are aware that they are available for you. Unfortunately, this is not something that can be changed and I appreciate your feedback about this. All of the links you are looking for can be located on the left panel of your screen or by clicking the green "My Care.com" tab located in the top left corner of the page.
8) These are all wonderful suggestions for the "Inbox" and again, I will share these ideas with our team for further review. We do take our members feedback very seriously and always try to incorporate our members ideas into our site whenever possible. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] so we can further assist in resolving some of these issues.
