I singed up with Care.com to do pet sitting. I paid for the background check as I work with vulnerable adults and knew I should have no issues passing. The next day I received notification my account was suspended due to a traffic violation 7 years ago. There was no phone number to Care.com and the only email they gave bounced back as not monitored. I was unable to remove the photos and info I had already uploaded to their platform and unable to make sure my membership was canceled and I receive a refund. This company is not reputable. I do not recommend them.

I’m extremely disappointed with my experience as a caregiver on Care.com. I’ve worked hard to maintain a 5-star profile and build trust through reviews over time, but after recently paying for a background check I discovered I couldn’t receive messages while it’s processing because my legal last name has changed following my divorce. When I contacted support to update my name, I was told name changes aren’t allowed under any circumstances, including marriage or divorce, and that my only option was to delete my account and start over, losing all of my reviews and reputation. To make matters worse, I was told I would not receive a refund or credit for the background check I had just paid for. This policy feels incredibly unfair to long-time users who have invested time, effort, and money into their profiles. Life events happen, and platforms should have reasonable processes to accommodate something as common as a legal name change, and I truly hope this policy is reconsidered because caregivers deserve better support and flexibility.

Never, ever, found a caregiver or tutor or anything else, despite trying for years. Charged $155/year. Renewed without warning me and then said "Oh, it was in the T&C a year ago." I cancelled minutes after they renewed; no refund. Zero utility. Zero customer care.

Nonrefundable VERY high annual subscription price that they don't send you a warning about! I tried to talk to their customer service and just got AI replies that it was not refundable. Their reply here suggests that there's someone to help me -- this is misleading.

I would stay away! I paid $60 for a background check and have sent tons & tons of messages. None have replied! I feel like I was scammed!!!! They would not refund my $60!!! I tried to cancel right after signing up and they lied and said my background was already in progress!!!! They are such a fraudulent company. 0 stars!

I've used them in the past with satisfaction. Now, after canceling, they continued to bill me. I just noticed another charge for $63.99. This time I noticed that when you cancel it asks you multiple questions to distract, and then didn't cancel. When I tried to cancel again, it said I need to use my computer, not my cell phone to cancel. I was able to register and sign up with my cell phone, now I need my laptop to cancel?? It's a shame. This used to be a respectable company. Now I'm going to have to dispute the charges through my bank.

Almost every modern subscription service — from streaming platforms to professional SaaS tools — sends renewal reminders as a basic sign of respect toward customers. Care.com chose not to. When I contacted customer support, they acknowledged that I did not receive a notification — yet still refused a refund, citing “policy.” That tells you everything you need to know: the system is designed to benefit from people forgetting to cancel. This is not about the $60. It’s about trust. A service built around care, families, and responsibility should hold itself to higher ethical standards — not rely on silent renewals and rigid policies. If you are considering Care.com, reconsider whether you want to support a platform that operates this way. There are alternatives that treat customers with far more transparency and respect.
