Care.com has worked for my tutoring and senior care needs for the past 7-8 years. It is a website that allows you to contact employees who are looking for jobs. The fee is comparable to any fee that a hiring agency would charge. Their platform and interface worked for me and when I needed help I was always able to contact customer service. Never had a problem with contacting potential employees. What I would suggest to employers who are looking for caregivers for their love one is that they do an intensive background check on each and every employee that they are serious about hiring. In our desperation we did not do the more extensive background check on the caregivers we hired. We trusted their reviews and their interview. It is worth the money and time to do the check. Please for your sake and your love ones. It is your responsibility to find out who these people are on this site. Contacting the previous employer that they worked for or the employer who paid them is the best way to determine if the employee is worth your time and energy. Background checks should include employer verification. I can only tell you from my experience that we have hired over the last year approximately 6 caregivers from care.com website to care for our 98 y/o elderly family member and only one of these caregivers was professional at the same time caring. She is still hanging in there with us even though her job isn’t easy. The other 5 were not professional at all. “Caring” but completely unprofessional. They would show up late and still expect to get paid, quit without notification, one used profanity and was a racist and let our elder fall and fracture her sacrum which ended her in the rehabilitation center for several weeks…others just sat on the couch and took naps (even though we had cameras and we could see and hear everything). We would ask them not to speak about our elderly family members personal health to anyone other than the person who hired them….but non of this mattered to these caregivers. I wrote a review on one caregiver who called me a coward and demonic and said I could write anything I wanted to write about her…because she didn’t care. But yet texted me constantly to see if I changed the review and because I felt merciful I changed the review to be more palatable without being untrue. So care.com is not the problem. They are actually an excellent platform to find caregivers. They do a basic background check. If you have any issues with any caregiver they try to address them immediately (i.e. the caregiver who was careless with our elder and let her fall n a tiny space was removed from the community immediately). But I can not tell you how important it is for you to do your own checking. How important it is to set ground rules for these caregivers. They may get anyone to write a review showing that they are the best caregiver in the world. It is your responsibility to follow up on who these people really are and how long they worked for an employer who actually hired them….
