Allegro Cozumel/Pro Divers Dive Shop
1st, the Allegro Cozumel was fine. The rooms were comfortable and well air-conditioned and I was surprised what the "all inclusive" included. Not only 3 buffet meals per day plus other restaurant options but unlimited alcohol as well. My wife was also pleased with the included kayaks and the really nice beach. My issue was the dive shop. This place, ProDiver, is supposedly a 5 star PADI dive shop. It is run primarily by non-divers. The boats have seen better days and are small. There is no room on the boats to put your gear and both tanks for the morning or afternoon 2 tank dies forcing you to put on wetsuits prior to boarding with only your kit. No matter the boat you are on, they have to motor over to another dock to get your 1st tank. After the 1st dive you return to that dock to exchange the tanks. This makes for a lot of travel back and forth and wasted time. This is the 1st time I got on a boat and the captain did not say a word to anyone. The deckhands are not divers and can do little more than help you on and off with your stuff, so your guide is also your only rescue diver. One deckhand opened my air valve so hard that I could not close it. It became evident to me why I was taught you always open the valve full and close a quarter turn so that does not happen. Not a good experience. Other than the poor boat experience, both guides were good. The diving sites were crowded due to many many other dive boats on site so you have to pay attention to your guide. It would be easy to accidently join up with another group. And you have to be extra careful when surfacing due to the high boat traffic and what looked to me like a high percentage of inexperienced and sometimes aggressive boat captains. Bring your own towels, they are not provided nor were any kind of paper towel. One boat was too small for a head and would let you off on the dock for a restroom break during the tank exchange. And last but not least at the end of your dive experience the dive shop could not provide a printout of your dives for your logbook because they do not have a printer. Not a place I would go back to.
