My wife and I engaged BriteCo expecting a modern, smooth digital process. We initially scheduled a video verification appointment for three items. However, when we attempted to expand the scope of our business by submitting more items and requested a logistical workaround for the video requirement—given that we were traveling and our jewelry was locked in a home vault—the company proved entirely incapable of flexibility. Our attempts to coordinate an alternative path were met with defensive, institutional language from their staff. When we requested to keep communication strictly in writing to ensure a clear paper trail, the company resisted transparent communication and refused to involve corporate leadership (such as Dustin Lemick) to resolve the administrative bottleneck. BriteCo chose to cancel our account and force a refund rather than attempt to provide a flexible consumer experience. A modern digital insurer should possess the administrative capability to handle client logistical constraints smoothly.

I was not aware my premiums would go up every year. I thought it was a set price. Will most likely cancel.

A few things I have issue with- First, the timeline of yearly payment. I got an email in June saying sometime September that it was due, no date or price. The second is when I upload my ring info you wait to hear back, nothing, then it’s denied. No reason what so ever. Plus, this is only time anyone from Britco has ever reached out.
Response from BriteCoSep 16, 2026
Hi Bryan, I’m sorry this process has been so frustrating. You should have received clear information about when your annual payment was due and how much it would be. You also deserved an explanation when your ring submission was denied, rather than being left without an update. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. We’re reviewing your feedback with our team so we can improve how we communicate throughout the process. The BriteCo Team

We’re sorry for the confusion around your renewal increase. We always send a renewal notice 60 days in advance outlining the upcoming renewal, but we understand that these communications can sometimes be missed. We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to clarify.

My name is Steve Gayne, and I am sharing with you a part of my complaint letter I sent to the owner of Briteco that had no effect as they refused to lower the insured value of a ring; however I feel my experience is something others should be aware of: I’ve insured my wife’s 2.00 CT natural emerald cut diamond with Briteco since March 2025. The diamond is GIA Certified with a rating of HVS2. I provided an appraisal to Briteco for $15,000, including a platinum mounting with baguettes. After a conversation with Christine at Briteco last year, it was decided to insure this ring for $18,000 with a premium of $159.47. In March of 2026, I noticed Briteco withdrew $224.15 automatically from my checking account since we are on autopay. I also noticed Briteco increased the value of the insured diamond to $21,000, a 15% increase in value and also an increase to our premium by 40%. Upon realizing $224.15 was withdrawn from my account from Briteco I had another conversation with Christine, who said the Rapaport List shows the diamond valuing at $6,700 per carat ($13,400). In asking what the same 2 carat emerald cut HVS2 was listed last year, she said she didn’t know. As someone who has worked and continues to work in the jewelry business for more than 50 years, I am very familiar with all aspects of this industry and have also been involved with insurance replacements with Allstate Insurance. I provided a Rapaport diamond list from January 2025 that showed proof that the same 2.00 carat emerald cut diamond was listed at $11,000 per carat, a 40% DROP in value. The question I then posed to the Briteco representative was if the value of a diamond decreases 40% from last year, how can anyone knowledgeable in the insurance or jewelry industry possibly increase the new value of that same diamond to $21,000? I offered to provide a new updated appraisal for 2026 that indicates this diamond’s lower value, but was refused by Briteco. I feel Christine, and essentially Briteco, was totally uncooperative with me. I can ask anyone in the insurance or jewelry industry, and there is NOBODY who would increase the value of a diamond when seeing and knowing the value of this specific diamond having plummeted by 40% from last year’s list. I have insured my wife’s ring for more than 50 years and never had this problem and have since changed insurers, who are now insuring my wife’s same ring at the appraisal value of $15,000 without issue. I feel Briteco was totally unreasonable and uncooperative with me, failing to recognize the true lower value of my wife’s diamond after its 40% drop, despite the documented proof I provided to them, where they were adamant in refusing to adjust the new lowered value with the lower premium. Based on my experience, I strongly urge other insured customers to make sure the insurance company they are with is knowledgeable, accurate and acting fairly when providing proof of a much lower value of a jewelry item. # # #
