I bought this brace because I was feeling pain in my thumb (I'm 73) when playing the banjo. I play clawhammer style - involving repetetive thumb strikes on the 5th string. The brace immobilizes the base of my thumb, alleviating the pain when playing. It does require a slight alteration in the angle of my stroke which takes getting used to, but I'm pleased with the purchase.
