Boot.dev has great courses and the gamification helps with keeping consistent. additionally they have purchasing power parity which was a major help for someone from a country where dollars are not easy to come by.

It’s been great so far. It made getting back into coding way easier and fun. Cheaper than getting a handful of courses on Udemy or the like. Highly recommend!

I was looking for something to learn and I found boot.dev. Seeing it being supported by some known names (Theprimeagen) I thought of giving it a try. The challenges and course content is good, and structured very well and I can learn a lot easily, also due to gamification. The training tab is extremely useful as I can generate an exercise for a given language and just practice every day which is also something I love. However one thing that I find missing is other languages/frameworks like React, C++ and etc. It would be very helpful to have those as finding C++ resource for me was quite hard, for React not really because it's extremely popular so there are a tons of resources but the better ones are on paid websites like Scrimba (which isn't convenient but it is what it is). It would probably be better to let it generate on Training tab if possible. Otherwise I love it and I recommend Boot.dev to everyone who wants to learn coding and other programming concepts.

As a gamer, I find that the lessons feel much more enjoyable. I'm able to work at my own pace and really grasp what’s happening. I want to give a shout-out to the training grounds; even though I struggle a bit there, I appreciate the opportunity to practice what I've learned repeatedly.

Review update I have to update my review because even though I still think what I expressed earlier - see below - is true, I have to say I am finding a lot of value in other courses. The SQL course for example has been really helpful. I am increasing the rating to 4 starts because the content quality makes the cost of the course worth it. ----- Boot.dev presents itself as a gamified platform to dive into Backend development concepts. In my experience it was cumbersome, the 'gamification' wasn't really part of the process but just part of the aesthetics and theme. The customer support is non existent - the only time I got a reply was when I asked for a refund - which I never got. The worst experience was with exercises. The assignments weren't very specific and there wasn't good feedback on mistakes. There is an AI assistant that can be used at a cost - mind you this is for the paid account. Overall felt not much different than other platforms but with really poor support. Not worth the expense and because of the poor customer service I have to give it just one star.

Hello! We're really sorry you had that experience. We reply to customer support requests during business hours in the US, so if you sent something over the weekend, that's probably why it took a couple of days to get a response - sorry about that! Hopefully in the future we'll be big enough to support more than a single support person! Regarding the assignments, again, very sorry that was your experience. We make updates daily to the content to try to make them as clear as possible. There's a "report issue" button on every lesson and we take those reports incredibly seriously! Regardless, glad you got your refund, we don't want anyone paying us that isn't having a good experience. > There is an AI assistant that can be used at a cost - mind you this is for the paid account. To be clear, the AI assistant does NOT cost any extra real-world money, there is an "in-game" cost of "baked salmon" to use him (which can be bypassed by just forgo-ing XP) simply because from a pedagogical perspective, using AI to solve all the challenges is bad for your learning, so we dis-incentivize it!

I got a black fri deal making the price I paid worthwhile. The gamified style and module content generally worked to keep me engaged. There are frustrating aspects, especially when there is something you're not grasping, a lesson takes 6 hours and you only get a relatively small amount of "XP" for your effort or miss a day / "deadline". Some courses feel like a boss/lead is walking through/training instructing you exactly how to design and build something, then they get pulled away halfway and leave you to guesstimate exactly how they want it built with little direction... It's ok if you look at it as what a real job can be like, but can be a quite frustrating. The community/discord is helpful and encouraging. With so many features, some of the best aspects (spellbook) can be overlooked where Boots (AI) may be the more difficult way to find the answer you're after. Since my paid year expired, I haven't put anywhere near the amount of hours into study than I did while I had it. I'm yet to try the free version for the few things I'd like to go back to / didn't get to. If you're more likely to play a game than study, but want to learn, improve, or practice coding / "back end" technologies, this could be for you.

I didn't study computer science at school. The platform is quite simple to use and the gamification aspect of it keeps you hooked. Lane is kinda a d*ck though. benevolent dictator for life or whatever
