It's fun, go do it
I think they offer some version of this site for free...and I paid for it any way because it's so good. They make putting in my coding reps easy. Except C...never C. But everything else was great.

The most captivating, finger-flying, addictive way to learn to code

I have a little bit of experience in programming, like two semesters of intro to java levels of experience plus a career's worth of PowerShell scripting as a sysadmin. Boot.Dev really helps to take the edge off of learning the core concepts and wraps it all in interesting examples that are consistent throughout each course. You may be creating code as part of a fantasy RTS game in the object oriented programming course, or working on a document conversion program while learning functional programming. To be clear you never actually create these programs, they are used as a consistent frame to learn within each course. I found this approach really good and often added a layer of fun to sometimes frustrating content (after all it is more fun to create a dragon firebreath function while learning how to work with cartesian coordinates within a class than to work on some generic function with just dummy names for everything). My biggest gripe is that the project courses really hold your hand a lot. Creating an asteroids clone was fun, and it was really great to put together everything you've learned into something that works, but there are situations where entire classes are just given to you instead of teaching you how to do certain things (which to be fair is in many cases because the goal is to demonstrate OOP concepts, not learn pygame). Overall, learning programming concepts are hard, or at least are not always easy, so many of the lessons are indeed difficult. The instructions sometimes require you to think about what is being asked of you to accomplish, but so far I have found everything generally straightforward in terms of what I was trying to accomplish for each lesson. The key though is that nothing can just make you know programming, you have to learn it which means you will have to put in effort, it is going to be difficult, and there will be times you are not loving the process. But Boot.Dev does a great job at making things bite sized and approachable, providing tools to help when you get stuck without handing you the answers. There are good resources for creating essentially endless practice lessons, though they are created through Generative AI so they are sometimes not as straightforward as the main lessons which is worth being aware of.

Boot.dev is a phenomenal place to learn how to become a programmer. Each course is carefully crafted and couples theory with hands-on practice. The community is vibrant and filled with enthusiastic learners. Simply put, I've been a member since before it has exploded in popularity and one thing has never changed: these guys CARE about their students.

I do the course every day and it’s the first coding course that hooked me, it made me really interested about the word and the possibilities of programming. Can’t recommend enough

This is worth every penny. Im on my second year and going through as many courses as I can. The steady drip of new stuff and continuous improvements to legacy courses keeps everything feeling fresh. I'm not looking for a career as a back end dev, but for someone who is programming adjacent, this has given me a very deep insight and much better understanding of our developers and the confidence to debug and work on personal projects of my own.

Great website. The courses increase in difficulty over time, encouraging you to also discover how to do things on your own (which is how you improve). 10/10! Probably one of the most valuable subscriptions I have ever paid for. Not sure if it'd get you a tech job, but it sure does help you with starter to intermediate knowledge.

Even when nowadays AI writes most of the code for you, I always wanted to learn how to program by my self and boot.dev helped me a lot to really start in this journey of software engineer. Community on discord is really friendly and will help you in any of your doubts. I really recommend their courses, even if you can't pay for a subscription, the information is completely free.

This was the first coding course I have taken that actually gave hands on experience. The lessons are straight forward and challenge you enough to make yourself learn without wasting a ton of time.
