Good marketing lessons, overpriced, lacking systemic awareness
I learned a lot about marketing through this program and walked away with concrete strategies that helped me improve my business. Overall though, the program was regrettably overpriced for what I received, and the two-year commitment was not a good investment for me. One of my biggest concerns was the limited acknowledgment of privilege, power, race, and systemic oppression within the coaching framework. As someone whose work serves marginalized communities, I received coaching around my reluctance to charge those communities $5,000+ for a coaching container. My concern was framed primarily as a personal mindset issue: scarcity, fear, or discomfort with charging what my work is worth, without sufficient acknowledgment of the systemic realities that shape people's access to money. I would have appreciated a much more nuanced exploration of the intersection between personal beliefs, business strategy, and systemic oppression. Meetings were held over Zoom and often started at 6am, 7am, or 8am PST. I felt motivated to do all of the things the curriculum suggested were necessary to reach higher revenue, but the increase in revenue I experienced was largely a result of working more hours and working harder. That level of effort was not aligned with the heart-centered life and business I was hoping to build by joining Boldheart. After a year, I asked to be released from the contract and refunded for the remaining time. I wasn't able to get out of the contract. The Boldheart team was kind and accommodating in allowing me to take a sabbatical and I appreciated that flexibility, but the length and cost of the program did not feel justified by what it ended up being. I’m grateful for what I learned about marketing and for the strategies I was able to take away, but I would not make the same two-year investment again. I would have gotten more value from a shorter-term commitment with a more nuanced approach to systemic inequality, sustainability, and what it means to build a successful business without simply equating growth with marketing more.
