Smoke and mirrors and I got smoked.
This is somewhere between a complaint and a lesson learned. Several years ago I knew I needed aids. Contacted Beltone and had a hearing test and they recommended aids. So I contacted my heath insurance, FEPblue. They approved a request to have them fitted. For the next several years my Beltone office managed by Debbie M took care of me. Reminded me to come in periodically and be tested and to do whatever maintenance necessary to keep the aids in top working order. Things were good. Then Debbie retired. Next trip to Beltone office, the new manager started digging my ears, scratching the canal until I screamed STOP. I left and went right to my PCP. She took a look in my ear and told me don’t ever go back there and put me on antibiotics. Then a few months later one of the units quit charging. I called another office in another town to have the unit repaired which I thought would’be under warranty. Then I got the news. Beltone gives you a three year warranty while FEPBlue will only replace the pieces every 5 years. Meanwhile in those two uncovered years I get to pay $400 for repair and both needed repair for $800. I do get a one year warranty on the repaired units. Once that year is up I am out of there. I will be going with the new German technology. Bye bye Beltone.
