I have to say, I don't write reviews often, but man oh man BCBS today...they just deny. They don't think. They don't understand why one would want a different medication. They have scripts that employees read with no individualized care. And I am locked in because this is through work...I dread when anything medical comes up because BCBS is set up to not help you. If you have a choice in your provider do NOT go with them. Bad customer car, bad policy, bad all around.

Just like any other insurance, they don't want to pay for your healthcare. My daughter required emergency care services in Cancun for croup and respiratory distress. We were told by all the facilities involved that we would just need to file for reimbursement online and we would get reimbursed the $2,500.00 for the Emergency department visit and treatment. We called the insurance to verify this information: Blue cross blue shield of texas. Initially, they tried to tell us to request prior authorization as my daughter lay in the emergency department struggling to breathe. Then, they said we would need to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed. We did as instructed. For a visit like this in the US, it would have maybe cost us $500. The insurance is now saying the full cost is our responsibility and will not reimburse us. We will be filing an appeal and see what happens, but I doubt this will be beneficial.

The bronze plan is a rip off, it covers virtually ZERO. When I call Blue Cross for providers they suggest the website. The website suggest calling Blue Cross. The bronze plan offers nothing but zero coverage. Blue cross used to be a good company. Now they barely deserve 1 star

BCBS Texas has been incredibly difficult to deal with. Their customer service is frustrating, and representatives often talk in circles rather than answering basic questions clearly. Getting someone on the phone who can actually understand and address the issue has also been a challenge. My primary care provider has had repeated problems submitting referrals to BCBS Texas. Their portal does not update properly when referrals are sent. I have called multiple times, and BCBS keeps insisting that my doctor’s office must not understand how referrals work. Meanwhile, the specialists the referrals were sent to received them a month ago, so the issue clearly appears to be on BCBS’s side. Their provider directory is also unreliable. The BCBS Texas website lists several of my doctors as in-network, but every one of those doctors has told me they have not been in-network for a long time. As a result, I make appointments based on BCBS’s own website and then have to fight with them when their information turns out to be wrong. The service is terrible, and their provider portal is so inaccurate that it feels misleading. I selected my plan based on the information BCBS Texas provided, and almost none of it has turned out to be true. I am paying $985 per month and still spending hours every month trying to get care covered based on information they advertised.
