Bassett denying warranty coverage advised by their technician
We purchased a made-to-order Bassett sectional because we expected the quality and craftsmanship to justify the price and provide years of use. It was delivered in October. By May, the corner of the sectional was sinking so severely that it was becoming unusable. I first contacted Bassett about the problem in May and in early June they sent somebody to see and evaluate the issue. The furniture technician advised that Bassett replace the corner piece under warranty. It is now halfway through August, and there is still no replacement or resolution as Bassett has denied the technician's recommendation. Bassett has maintained that there is no construction issue and has suggested that the problem is related to how the sofa has been used. Since delivery, the sofa has received gentle, normal use. Looking closely at the construction, the other sections have upper support framing along their exterior, while the corner, the area experiencing the severe sinking, has none. The lack of support is so significant that it's now disfiguring the seat cushion, as shown in the attached photos. I purchased Guardian protection separately for issues such as fabric damage, and Bassett suggested I pursue this issue through Guardian. Guardian subsequently told me that construction issues, which they state this is, fall under Bassett’s warranty and Bassett must remedy this. What’s most disappointing is that this is exactly the kind of quality issue I purchased an expensive, made-to-order sofa from Bassett believing I would avoid. And most importantly, a significant structural problem revealing itself within months of purchase should be something Bassett stands behind. I’m sharing photos because I think consumers, particularly those considering a significant investment in custom furniture from Bassett, deserve to see what this kind of deterioration can look like in a new Bassett sofa, and how the company will deny a warranty claim when a serious quality issue arises.
