Seeing results and it’s only the beginning of week 2
This is the beginning of my 2nd week in the 8 week Grammarless program. I can report that I am already seeing improvements in my pronunciation and listening skills. Today, while riding a bus into the city, a local Mexican lady commented that my Spanish was very clear. She overheard me questioning the bus driver about the fare for seniors. Well, that was definitely a first! Also today, I understood where to find a bakery when I asked a young man on the street for directions. So many times, I’ve asked for directions and I have no idea what the person is telling me. I’ve been living in MX for four years. Having these two positive experiences in this one outing today shows me that I am understanding more Spanish and I am being understood, so a big thank you to my teacher Luis and the Grammarless program!

Baselang is great... but...
No company is perfect, but Baselang is pretty solid. It especially excells in the customer service department; with coordinators who really do seem to care and want to help, and who are efficient in how they go about it.I was disappointed in the recent change of price to a monthly subscription. It's understandable that a company will occassionally have to make those types of adjustments, and it seems like Baselang has been extremely careful about keeping subscriptions affordable and not increasing prices often. But the fact remains that amount was greater than what seemed right. To increase by $10 to $15 is understandable. To sail past $10, $15, and even $20 and $25, and increase by $30?... Yikes! It also seems that Baselang has gotten some new teachers lately, but it also seems that a majority of these new teacthers are Spanish only and/or gentlemen. That is to say, it would be nice to have a wider variety of new teachers to choose from. It would be especially nice to see more female teachers in the 40 year + age range. It would also be nice to have more teachers to choose from with evening and nighttime schedules. Lastly, the electives really need an upgrade. Yes, there are a lot of topics to choose from, but if a student has a particular interest it would be great if there was a way to earn elective credit by digging down deep enough into one's own chosen topic. Maybe like a 'besoke' or custom elective opportunity. It would also be great if the teachers didn't jump in to correct students so quickly, especially students who've been studying for a while and should be given an opportunity to correct their own mistakes. Amigos lessons or Parejas lessons would also be great. If two people in a household are learning spanish on Baselang, if I am a Baselang teacher, the thing I would most want to see is those students incorporating Spanish into their daily home life and using it together. Last but not least, could we students please get a Baselang merch store?

Learning to think and speak in Spanish
Challenging me to think and speak in Spanish, but allowing me to switch to English when I needed help expressing myself or understanding what the teacher was saying.

Baselang teacher had affair with my husband and now marrying him
Baselang promised their teachers would never share information or form personal relationship with their students. My ex-husband is now marrying his Baselang teacher. He was an alcoholic who had just joined AA and gotten sober. He asked for lessons to learn Spanish. He had an emotional affair with his instructor and left me for her after 30+ years together. I found out that they had been having a relationship through the baselang lessons. He flew to see her two weeks after he left me and they are now getting married. How do you compete with someone younger, prettier and always perfect online? Very sad. My kids are devastated. The financial devastation was awful and I basically paid for him to have an affair as I paid his Baselang subscription so although they promise it's secure, it's not. The teachers can work around their rules and have relationships with the students.
