Publishing my first children's book, "Felicia Flamingo and the Florida Friends" was a truly pleasant and rewarding experience. My involvement with Atmosphere Press was enjoyable and stress free. Each team member was courteous, professional, and certainly helpful. Having had no knowledge concerning book publishing, Atmosphere was always available to answer any question, and address any concern that I encountered. I would most definitely return to Atmosphere Press should a second book be forthcoming.

Atmosphere delivered what they promised and more. They really cared about my book. One person managed the project from beginning to end. Their developmental editor was so helpful, she really made a substantial difference in my book. Their line editors were excellent. The design director did a fantastic job creating the cover. Beautiful job. Truly love it. And once my book was finished they were there with some helpful ideas. My book was given the Independent review of the month and it was nominated for a prestigious award in the UK. I cannot say enough positive things about Atmosphere.

I had an excellent experience publishing my collection of short stories, Misfits, with Atmosphere. I'd published several books before with mainstream publishers--five children's novels, and two non-fiction books. In none of those books did I have any say in the cover. In contrast, I found it a pleasure to work with Ronaldo Alves and his design team and was delighted with the final book cover. I received valuable editorial input from Colleen Alles, and the entire editorial process--layout, interior design and copy editing--went smoothly. I'm proud of the resulting book, which has received very positive reviews, although not equivalent sales. In the end, you cannot count on Atmosphere's marketing department to sell your book for you. I enjoyed my interaction with everyone at the company and might consider publishing another book with them. I just wish they were a stronger sales advocate for my work.

Ronaldo is a great collaborator. He's creative, thorough and responsive. Cover designer Kevin Stone is an amazing talent! My book cover is just what I hoped-and both of them made it an easy and satisfying process.

I've had three books published by Atmosphere and had a wonderful experience with all of them. The editing and design are excellent. Working with the staff is very enjoyable.

I'm 71 years old and I have battled Parkinson's disease for over a decade. But I have always been a writer, even though I never published a book. Fortunately, I found out about Atmosphere about a year ago. I submitted three stories to them, and they responded with four pages of incredibly detailed, on-target feedback. Thus, I felt they would be a good publishing firm to work with. I was right. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of putting together a book made up of poetry and short stories (fiction). It's out in public now, and I can't believe how many five-star reviews I'm getting from Kirkus and elsewhere. They have a great and friendly staff who helped me decide what my cover should look like, how I should order my poems and stories, and how I should respond to outside reviewers. Thank you, Atmosphere!

I chose Atmosphere as my publisher after looking at their contract (which they publish online) and the services they provided. When I used them, every person I dealt with was friendly, supportive, patient, and responsive. I've heard other publishers won't allow writers to have much, if any, input into the publishing of their work. Atmosphere took everything I asked for and made it happen (unless they thought it wouldn't work, which I appreciated). I did my own book marketing because that's my background. I liked them so much I used them twice!

As any writer knows, getting a book published is no mean feat. Unfortunately going the traditional route is virtually impossible for most authors – finding an agent, who then in turn finds the right publisher for your book. Unless you are famous or already a well-renowned author you are probably going to travel down a long road of rejections. And it’s not because your book is rubbish, it’s because agents and publishers are in it to make money, too. They will only take on a project that is a guaranteed profit for them. So, we have alternatives out there — self-publishing, which is way out of my skill set, or approaching a hybrid publisher like Atmosphere Press, which I did. My experience with them was very positive. There are three different packages to suit your wallet and it’s entirely your decision which one you choose. There is no pressure on their part to spend more money. If you want website design, it’s available, but if you wish to design your own website, then that’s fine with them. Likewise with marketing. I have now had two novels published with them and have been happy with both experiences. The two rounds of editing I had with Megan for each book were both thoughtful and professional. Ronaldo was very accommodating with any changes I wanted to make to my covers and the results were beautiful. Cam, Alex, Hayla and Elana have all been very responsive to any issues I may have, and I have enjoyed working with them. I will finish up by saying that I had a terrible experience with another publishing company in the UK, who not only took my money, but never published my book. So not all hybrid publishers are created equal. Atmosphere Press are up front with what they deliver; there are no hidden costs. If you’re thinking of taking the hybrid route, then they’re the ones to choose.
