Cancelled my subscription, but was still charged two days later
Very disappointing experience with Setanta Sports. I cancelled my subscription on September 25, but I was still charged for the subscription renewal on September 27. I contacted customer support and asked for a refund. They explained that because an earlier payment attempt had failed due to insufficient funds, my subscription had entered a 14-day “grace period”. According to them, cancelling the subscription during this period only cancels the next renewal, while Setanta can still attempt to charge me for the current period. So, in practice, you can cancel your subscription and still be charged a few days later. What is even more frustrating is that Setanta confirmed in writing that I cancelled the subscription on September 25 and that the payment was taken on September 27, but they still refused to refund the money, stating that this is how their system works. I find this approach to subscriptions and cancellations extremely misleading and customer-unfriendly. If you use Setanta Sports, make sure you carefully read the rules regarding their “grace period” — cancelling your subscription apparently does not necessarily mean that further payment attempts will stop.
