False payment claims
I have not received my payment to my bank account despite them claiming that I have been paid. My bank also says no payment was received or is being processed on the same. Tread carefully with this one.

It's a very good platform but it's takes forever for you to get a task to work on I've only worked on one project so far and despite submitting a lot of applications I've still not gotten any feedback I'm giving this a one star

I completed close to 60 scientific paper reviews on a rubric-auditing project. I was paid for 2. The core issue is that acceptance criteria were never disclosed during onboarding. We were told this was to prevent gaming of the metric, which I understand in principle — but the practical effect is that you complete dozens of hours of work with no way to know the standard you're being measured against and no feedback loop to correct course. Submissions were filtered by an automated screening system. When I asked why so many of my reviews were rejected, I was told the system flags behaviors like submitting shortly after opening a task or pasting content into the tool rather than typing it in. That explanation came after the fact. If those are payment-eligibility conditions, they belong in onboarding documentation, not in a message sent once the project is already over. Reviewers who prepare their analysis carefully offline — which is normal practice for serious paper review — have no way of knowing they are disqualifying themselves. The automated auditor itself was unreliable. Reviewers on the project repeatedly encountered auditor flags that were factually wrong about the papers, and the tooling did not allow mischaracterized rubric items to be corrected — only reweighted. This was raised internally and acknowledged. Rejections from that system came with no appeal route. Of my ~60 reviews, 9 were ever surfaced to me: 2 accepted, 7 returned for revision. I was never able to submit those 7 revisions. The project went silent for roughly two months, then was terminated. Work that the reviewers themselves judged worth fixing was simply discarded. Pros: genuine frontier-lab work, intellectually substantial, well-funded company, responsive when issues are raised in channel. Cons: undisclosed acceptance criteria, unreliable automated rejection with no appeal, no feedback on rejected work, abrupt project termination with pending revisions stranded, and a compensation model where you carry the full cost of work that may never be paid. If you take on work here, assume anything you produce may go uncompensated and price your time accordingly.

Extremely Disappointing Experience with Afterquary – A Waste of Time and Effort I strongly advise freelancers to be cautious before investing their time in the Afterquary project. Here is my honest feedback: No Evaluations/Feedback: Tasks are left unreviewed indefinitely without any status updates or feedback provided. Unpaid Work: Despite spending long hours of dedicated work and effort, earned payments are not being processed or credited. Lack of Tasks & No Notifications: New tasks are extremely rare. Even worse, when tasks are finally available, no notifications or alerts are sent—unlike other professional platforms that notify contributors immediately. You are forced to manually refresh the page constantly or risk missing out. Widespread Frustration: The entire contributor community is complaining about the exact same issues, and most people are abandoning the project due to a complete lack of transparency. Until they fix their review workflow, payment system, and notification process, I do not recommend wasting your time here.

They take too long to review assessments. My generalist application assessment has never been reviewed for over 2 weeks.

I don't usually write reviews, but the AfterQuery team had the gall to email me encouraging me to review them here. So here I am. Plain and simple: AfterQuery is a scam - a very well packaged one. I was onboarded to complete creative writing tasks and basic RLHF projects. The advertised pay for that initial project was $50/hour, which they then promptly switched to a per-task model. This is a classic scam tactic. This way, they're able to use your completed tasks and data and leave them in a "review" status indefinitely or even flat out reject your submission. Then you don't get paid. Funnily enough, this is exactly what AfterQuery does on almost all other projects. Their review process is just feeding your submission to an AI. So, in that case, what exactly is AE's business model? It's an AI company that uses basic AI to do its work for it... Doesn't that just scream red flag? Well, it gets worse. If you're active on the company's subreddit, you'll find a slew of complaints ranging from not being paid at all to having submissions stuck in revision for weeks to months. These complains only last a few hours, as the customer support team actively delete negative sentiment. I suppose they'll do the same to this review if they have the power to. AfterQuery frequently launch projects and advertise a very lucrative pay. This is what will happen: the project will be live for a few hours with everyone scrambling to contribute, then it'll shut down. If not, it'll just stay in limbo as the company package your submissions and data and give it to their clients without having to pay for it. I had high hopes for the platform, but I will say with 100% of my soul: do not work here. Find something else, because nothing here is worth it. I don't even care about being anonymous here - I'm happy to shout this from the rooftops (which I have been doing).
