Serious Concerns Regarding 8fig’s Handling of Security and Customer Communication
For a financial technology company, 8fig’s handling of this matter has been extremely sloppy and warrants serious investigation. Our company’s situation is as follows: for reasons still unknown, our autopayments to 8fig suddenly stopped. We received no notification of any issue, yet 8fig continued to send general automated emails as if payments were being successfully processed. At no point did anyone from 8fig call or email us to inform us there was a problem. When I reached out to 8fig directly requesting a final payoff amount, I soon received an email from someone claiming to be a representative of 8fig that included payoff details and wiring instructions. As I began processing the wire, I noticed the email domain was 8flg.com, not 8fig.com—the letter “i” had been replaced with an “l.” Realizing this could be a scam, I immediately contacted 8fig, who informed me that this was a “common phishing attempt.” However, this was not a common phishing attempt. It was a highly sophisticated and targeted scam. The perpetrators clearly had access to our specific account information, they knew we had requested a payoff, were aware of our balance, and used the identity of an actual 8fig employee. This strongly suggests that 8fig’s internal systems were compromised, or worse, that someone within the company may have been involved. This incident caused our company significant disruption and financial risk. Yet 8fig’s response was dismissive, they implied that we were somehow at fault. After all of this, when we agreed to a payment plan to resolve the past-due balance, 8fig then failed to send us the plan as promised. Only later did 8fig send out a general email acknowledging that their customers were being targeted. Their lack of urgency, empathy, and accountability throughout this ordeal has been deeply disappointing. No customer should never have to go through such trouble while the company responsible shows so little concern.
