101 Mobility Questionable adherence to local building code requirements.
I contacted 101 Mobility, Allentown, Pa about an elevator. The person I spoke with was nice & helpful as we discussed the project & set an in-house consultation date. The next day I got email from the 101 Mobility , Phila office. Apparently my address falls under the Phila office territory. I spoke with a person there & he was nice but he said his office doesn't do Stiltz elevators & referred me back to Allentown. OK, bouncy bouncy, I then got a call from a guy from Morgantown, PA who said he's be coming for the scheduled on-site visit. As we spoke, I asked about local permits & code requirements. He said they would do the job w/o the township knowing & didn't need permits. He insisted that he has been doing elevators for 17 years & he knew the codes. I said I would need some confirmation from someone about whether the installed elevator meets code so when I sold the house it would pass codes & inspections w/o requiring major changes if it didn't meet codes. The guy became insulted & said he knows more about elevator codes & didn't want to do a job where someone else gets involved in confirming that his work will meet the required code. So he refused the job. That threw up lots of red flags about this company. NO REPUTABLE COMPANY would do major home improvement involving structural changes w/o getting local permits to insure they meet local & state codes. He backed out as soon as I mentioned local codes & permits. That makes me think this company is "sketchy". Buyers beware!!!
