One Star is a lie. They didn't earn it. My funds are being held hostage because I cannot activate the new card and the old one expired. No phone help. No help in the App. No online help. This has been all week now. Nothing saying the office is closed. How can I pay bills, buy groceries, get gas? Calling the company that manages the card just gives me the same phone number I called. Ridiculous. The chimps are in charge.

I am sorry that I am forced to give one-star direct express doesn't deserve one. This place is the very worst in a long line of issues, the latest one is when I tried to use my card most of the time the transaction is turned down. This is from amazon, Macy's, PayPal, and more. I have transferred funds from direct express to my bank account once since then I have tried to transfer funds to my bank multiple times and it says it will go do it only to show the funds back on the direct express card a couple of days later. I have been dealing with this evil corrupt, incompetent, and thieving company for years with so much trouble it is affecting my health. I want to close out the account but direct express will not give you your money you have to spend it and now the past year I can't even do that. they allow CVS to put charges on the card but CVS is doing it fraudulently because I changed cards on my CVS account and they haven't had permission to use the direct express card I don't even know how they are because when I call CVS they show the new card capital one on file and not direct express when I go to my CVS account online it only shows the capital one card and not direct express. I want out of this nightmare but they won't let me use my card or transfer funds to my bank like they say they will. Avoid this company like the plague or you will be so sorry

Suspicious activity! I'll not explain full stories. All I'll say is that in my own opinion, direct express are a very vulnerable service who hold info of great value. In my own experience, they have been very dodgy and shady inside of their call service and this is where you'll find an occasional suspicious question will be asked, you'll also get to hear others in background of what we are told is a secure call. It doesn't stop there. But my patients does as I'm absolutely through with direct express... Hope this helps someone❤️

As an older American I get some of my benefits from Uncle Sam. We have been urged to do away with paper checks and use this card instead. Some people mistakenly think this is like a regular bank debit card, WRONGO Bucko! This card is simply a card for the government to deposit your cash benefits onto. It's not good for much else. Sure you can go to an ATM and get money from the card, but most of the time you will pay a fee. Don't expect any fancy benefits like overdraft protection, money transfers, GOOGLE-PAY or anything like that. And if you want customer service, your better off going to Washington, DC and trying to see the President in person! Oh and once you get this card, your pretty much stuck with it for life. Unless you trust that the government will actually send your benefits to the NEW bank that you've chosen instead. Good luck.

UPDATE: Another day has passed and I have tried calling over 100 times. I still have no card. I have no heat, no food no medication and I can't pay any of my bills. I'm facing eviction. They still will not answer the phone. This is the US Direct Express number to file a complaint: 313-222-3435. I had to use it today. I don't know how effective it will be. The gentleman I spoke with was very nice and kind. If this doesn't work for me I'm calling my Congressman and asking for assistance from his case management division. I'm also filing a complaint with the Federal Reserve against Comerica Bank. They are the bank behind US Direct Express. I strongly suggest everyone take these steps. Record all calls. Document everything. I absolutely will call and email the media. I suggest others do the same. Reach out to journalists who do investigative reporting or deal with consumer affairs. Make a lot of noise and make certain people know what Comerica Bank is doing to the elderly, disabled military members & vets. Cancel Culture is the zeitgeist now. Use it. CANCEL COMERICA BANK! Today is the 3rd. I have NO CARD! 3 WEEKS AGO I had to pay, AGAIN, for another new card because they give out defective cards that don't work. I couldn't afford $15 for express shipping. 3 weeks later I still have no card. I've tried to call them all day. All I get is the message stating they are experiencing high call volumes and to call back later. Then they hang up on me. I have no food. I cannot buy my medications. I have no heat. It's 15 degrees. My rent is late. My gas bill is now late. My electric bill is now late. My trash bill is now late. My water bill is now late. My sewer bill is late. And these people cannot even be bothered to answer the phone.

If I could give it no stars I would. Customer service is rude and don't explain any delays so that you're prepared and don't care if they tell you you're card will be there in 5 to10 days and it's not and your only money got deposited into the card ,then turn around and say well everything has been delayed because of the holidays.Then they shouldn't have said 5 to10 days. And when you express that your landlord is going to kick you out and your utilities are going to get shut off, they rudely tell it's not their problem and they can send you a expressed one if you pay $13. I'm on a fixed income and I don't have money to waste.If they knew of the delays then they should of said instead of lying. Please don't use this card I'm going to find a different card to direct deposit. Direct express is trash.

Around October they had a data breach with SSA accounts. Several reports online of their accounts being drained by a google alchemy charge. They won't admit it, and I can not dispute it because I bought something on google 4 years ago. By the way, I spent over 4 hours on hold with these disputes. Go back and ask for my old discontinued card number so I can take it to google who say they noticed my card was used on another account but need me to verify it before they get me my money back. When trying to get my old card number they locked my card for fraud after a 40min wait. Honestly just go to a local bank you trust and set up a direct deposit account and go to the social security government website and have it sent there.

I attempted to withdraw money from my Direct Express card using the ATM. The machine was not working so after several times hitting cancel transaction it finally issued me a transaction record showing $0 funds disbursed. I later checked my DE card and they had deducted the money requested, plus the ATM fee, plus the DE fee. I called DE and was on hold for over 3 HOURS and transferred to 3 different departments. Eventually reached the fraud department and told the rep I need my money back as soon as possible since I am disabled and this SSDI is my only income. She stated I could email a request for a probational credit to get my funds refunded to me sooner and I should call after 2-3 hours to verify they received my email. I called the next morning and was told this was not proper procedure. Email will not work. Must fax or mail and wait weeks to get my money refunded. I spoke to a so called manager that did absolutely nothing. At this point I no idea when I will receive my refund. This place is TERRIBLE.
