Phil Chaon was just a terrific guide for this tour - dry, quick sense of humor - dedicated to finding the scarce winter birds and did a great job of keeping everyone engaged even in the slow times (for heaven's sake - it's Minnesota in the Winter!). Phil has great eyes and was thorough in descriptions of birds & behavior. As an added bonus - he picked great local food spots for us to enjoy! For the non-birder photographer on the trip, as much as possible, Phil allowed him to get photos (without interfering with birding) - and presented some ideas for him for future wildlife/photography trips.

I have done both set and custom tours with Tropical Birding and have found them to be professional, knowledgeable, and very responsive. And a lot of fun! The guides have all been excellent and focused on their clients. Lots of pre-trip information is provided and logistics are well-planned. I felt safe traveling with the guides and drivers. The birding has been fantastic. I also like that Tropical Birding has different "types" of tours to better accommodate individual interests.

We spent 5 wonderful days in and around Tandayapa with Alex Luna. He was wonderful with an uncanny ability to spot birds by sight and sound. He was easy to be with and very patient with those of us who were less experienced. He did everything in his power to make this an enjoyable trip. He also spent time with me setting up for photos at the hummingbird feeders at Tandayapa Lodge and I was able to get some memorable shots. Our driver Marco was also wonderful. The roads we travelled were dark, foggy, muddy, bumpy and often single-laned and he was able to get us safely to our various destinations with confidence. Can't say enough good about Alex and our experience in Ecuador. I would recommend Tropical Birding to anyone interested in serious birdwatching.

The custom tour to Colombia was a good one, domestic air connections aside; all four flights were late. TB obviously cannot be held responsible for this. Nick Is an excellent guide; strong on birds and a good manager.

Very good organization of the tour, experienced guide, an excellent birder.

We scheduled a short custom tour which had to be cut half a day short. The time we did spend was very enjoyable and educational though.
