Our experience with Tropical Birding on a custom tour in Madagascar was outstanding. Our guide, Ken Behrens, was excellent. His knowledge of the wildlife of Madagascar was impressive. This included identification of birds, lemurs, chameleons and more. Ken has outstanding leadership, communications and organizational skills. His team of in country assistant guides and personnel at our lodges made this a trip of a lifetime for us.

Guides ability was outstanding. Transportation connections were excellent. Driver Omar’s abilities were very good in addition to being a good birder. I suggest he be supplied with good binoculars. He found many birds for the group. The food on the trip was very good and the majority of the lodging excellent.

After two tours I think that Tropical's guides are exceptional in time spent looking for birds and success in finding a variety of birds including rare and unusual species, when I compare this experience to other tours I;ve taken and to other people's descriptions of their travels. Tropical's tours reliably include comfortable accommodations and good food. I'm signed up for two more Tropical tours. If only I had more time, I would sign up for even more.

Great trip for photography - every effort was made to put us in front of birds from a wide variety of habitats = tropical forest, island on the Great Barrier Reef, outback scrub forest, botanical gardens, and Tasmania! We could take our time for photography, could get suggestions on composition and other helpful guidance whenever we wanted it, but we also had time to do our own thing. Wonderful to spend quality time with pink cockatoos, bowerbirds, kangaroos, cranes and several stunning robins.

This tour was excellent in every way. Our guide was extremely skilled at sensing all the birds around us, focusing on the birds we had not yet seen, and locating them with his scope. In several instances he would tell us that the bird would quickly pass through a particular opening in the leaves in 15 to 30 seconds, and he was correct each time. His skills in bringing birds close with technology were exceptional and incredibly helpful to us newcomers. The entire tour went through smoothly, even when the normal road to our first destination was closed for days due to a major rockslide. Our driver knew many birds well by sight and was extremely competent at negotiating the occasional high traffic or dense areas. All of us in our group had a very positive experience with each component of the trip, and would eagerly go with the same company and guide again.
