I have used Thin Optics for several years. The lenses are good and I do love the convenience of portability. However, putting the glasses in the plastic case they provide will eventually scratch the lenses thus requiring ordering another pair. I also have experience where the nose piece will eventually break off requiring another reordering of another pair. I do like the convenience of the glasses, but do not like the seemingly planned obsolescence.

I purchased a pair of ThinOptics readers for my mobile phone. I saw the glasses advertised on Good Morning America and thought the concept was brilliant. That said, I’m having issues with the adhesive that holds the glass case to phone. The battery of my mobile phone warms the adhesive causing the case to loosen and slip/slide all around the back of the phone - often covering the camera eye. I keep repositioning the case but all that’s done is schemer the glue all over the back of my phone. This began happening within the first 24 hours of adhering the case to the phone but I didn't complained to the company until now. The glue adhesive smeared all over the back of the phone, gets on my hands and clothes and now the case no longer sticks to the phone at all. I decided to thoroughly clean the case and phone, removing all the original glue and residue, and reattach with my own contact cement. We’ll see how this holds up but if it doesn’t work I’ve just ruined my cell phone cover too. I contacted ThinOptics customer support and explained my issue 5 days ago but haven’t heard back. They are known for great customer service so I’m sure I’ll hear back from them soon.

I really like the convenience of the Thinoptics readers and have used them often for 4 years. I had to replace them every year due to the cheap nose grips breaking off, but since the lifetime warranty gave free replacements and they only charged $5 for shipping, I didn't mind. I just went to get another replacement (broken nose grip!) and see they have changed to a 6 month warranty. I will search elsewhere knowing I will need to replace these at my own cost every year or so. Update: 2/12/2021: I bumped up my review by 1 star due to the response I received from ThinOptics (Miguel). After my post, he immediately contacted me and sent out a new reader at no charge. I did not request it and certainly did not expect it, but it was much appreciated. I do think the customer service is very good and hope they increase the warranty period before they lose too many future customers.

Edit: company has reached out to me and we’ve had a positive back and forth. I’m adding some stars in anticipation of a more positive outcome. Should that happen, and I expect it will, I will make this a 5 star review and change the narrative. I second many of the reviews here that express anger or dismay over the random changing of the original warranty promises. A customer since 2017 I was offered a lifetime replacement warranty for loss or damage. After suffering through scratches on my nose from the flimsy nose guards falling off consistently the first couple of years i was at least happy I could get replacements to limit said suffering. I had to navigate and argue at times but ThinOptics eventually sent replacements as needed. Then they arbitrarily stopped the replacements for a brief time. I guess too many people complained and they started replacing again but this time adding a $5 shipping fee for each replacement. Again assumingely based on complaints they “grandfathered” original customers who didn’t have to pay shipping. This lasted a short while and then again everyone needed to pay shipping. I figured no big deal. $5 wasn’t too bad and they seemed to improve the manner in which they secured the nose guard pieces in place. However it wasn’t a perfect improvement and they still fell off, though not as frequently. Now once again they changed their replacement policy. It’s a little more vague but apparently if you are more than 6 months out since your last replacement your also out of luck. Last month I requested a replacement due to a nose guard falling off. I was told I had too many replacements in 2020 (two really?) despite paying $5 each (again against the original agreement) and couldn’t get any more. I used the ones I had for a couple more weeks and the other nose guard fell off. Then the glasses broke in half! I called back and now instead of too many replacements within a specified time, it’s been over 6 months and the warranty expired. According to ThinOptics they can change the terms and conditions as they see fit. Despite KNOWING they make out charging $5 to ship replacements they won’t and instead offer you a measly 20% off a new pair. I’m kind of a dope because I used to promote these glasses when ever any one asked. I even bought a pair for someone as a gift not that long ago. However after debating with their customer service on the fairness of them breaching the original agreement and constantly changing the original understanding, I’ve decided to write this review and warn people against doing business with a company that treats long time customers this way, sells inferior products, denies claims and forces unacceptable changes based on “fine print”. Ill be going back to $1 cheaters at the local .99 store and suggest you do the same.

I would give the product 5 stars as it really deserves it, however, i bought several pairs for myself and friends based on their lifetime warranty they so proudly advertised. Now suddenly, they refuse to honor it. Is that even legal??? I can understand no longer offering the lifetime warranty but those who purchased early should be grandfathered in and receive the lifetime warranty. Not cool at all, and i assume not even legal.

This product was 2nd to none as I hate carrying readers everywhere I go. In 1 1/2 years, I have had 3 different reader glasses. The company used to offer free replacements when they break...and they break very often. The metal that supports the glasses together (over the nose) is cheap and using it multiple times a day weakens the material. Thin Optics has now changed their policy and makes you purchase new ones. If you are a heavy user of readers, I would look at other products that are better built and can support daily frequent use

I have been a long time customer I’ve purchased multiple pairs for my phone and keychains. I am constantly asked about them and brag about their quality and customer service. Having said that it has become harder and harder to get replacements. First they were free then five dollars and that was fine. Now I have to send in the old ones? I buy new ones when they wear out but not every time a nose piece breaks off or they snap in the middle.

I bought in 2019 a lens for me and another for my wife. They work perfect and don't take up space, that's what I like about these lenses. The bad part is that they scratch easily, so you should not use cleaning cloths but only mild water and neutral detergent and thus you have less scratches when cleaning. After a few months the metal arch that joins the crystals broke, but thanks to the lifetime guarantee they were able to replace it at a cost of 5 dollars. Today they tell me that they only give a guarantee up to 90 days and it is a waste if the lenses are of the same quality that they quickly end their useful life. I would rather pay a lot more for a product that lasts longer and does not scratch easily. I would give it 5 stars if the product has more improved quality and if the warranty continues for life.
