Long
The Steadman Clinic Today is not what it used to be
I am Mona Crandall. Dr. Kahn Farooqi at Steadman fused my left big toe in November 2021 with donated bone. I never walked well again due to five years of continuing pain. After two years, during a post op visit, Dr. Khan-Farooqi told us that he had measured the inserted graft too long, the left foot was longer than the right, and he would fix his mistake. April 2024 he shortened the toe and said he took out nearly half an inch to get it right. The pain remained. At that point, they were done with me. A Denver revision surgeon later took out the metal plate that was too big for my foot, released a tendon stuck in scar, and had to lower and straighten the toe because it did not touch the ground and was jammed into the second toe causing bleeding. That is what “nothing wrong” looked like on the table. We took this to Steadman leadership. They reviewed our file and said they did nothing wrong. They never addressed their own surgeon’s words about the measuring error. They sent us to their Dr. Haytmanek in Vail. His plan: cut a hole in an orthotic, or walk with the big toe held up, or get another steroid shot. That is not a revision workup. That is a brush-off. Famous clinic. Failed procedure. No ownership. Do not let a logo substitute for follow-through and real patient care. Beware of Steadman – this is not the Steadman of old. They do procedures but they don’t stay with patient until problem solved.
