I highly recommend this course to anyone who’s in a serious job search. The cost of the course is tiny compared to what I believe most people can gain in money, in good will, and in positive reputation, by being an effective negotiator. I heard Brandon the Find Your Dream Job podcast (which I would also highly recommend to anyone considering a job change or wondering if they should be). I made the mistake of putting off learning about negotiating until I got an offer. However, this isn’t necessarily a problem, because in the course Brandon’s explains how to recover from any negotiating mistakes you may have unwittingly made early in the recruiting and interviewing process. This course will, in a matter of hours, allow you to become a competent negotiator, and I believe will set you apart from most offerees, many of which will approach negotiation like haggling over the price of a car. He breaks it down to when you should negotiate for a higher base salary, when you should negotiate for a sign-on bonus, when negotiate for something else, and when you should negotiate for multiple items. In my case, I was able to recover from mistakes I’d made during interviews and got a very nice sign-on bonus. Using Brandon’s process, everything in my counteroffer was based on research, so I wasn’t throwing out arbitrary numbers, which made me feel confident in my counteroffer as well as in the impression I would give to people I’ll be working with. Perhaps more important than the money, this was the first time my future colleagues got to see my work firsthand in real time, and being a competent negotiator gave me the opportunity to display important attributes, such as flexibility and advocating for myself while maintaining positive relationships. Also, acknowledging the fairness of the base salary showed I'm a reasonable and rational person who uses research to arrive at important decisions. In addition to the course materials, Brandon was helpful in fielding questions I had via email.
