I am a 60 year old woman and I know my body, my brain, and my personality, and 30% of these results don't sound like me at all, in fact opposite of me. So I don't know if I can trust the rest of it either.
Response from SelfDecodeOct 2, 2023
Hi M! I'm so sorry to hear that your results have not been resonating with you, and I understand how frustrating that may feel. I want to clarify that the risk scores in your reports are not definitive predictions of your health. They indicate whether you have a higher or lower genetic risk compared to others but are not 100% predictive.
Remember - genetics is just one part of the puzzle. Many factors, such as lifestyle, environment, and overall health, also influence how genetic risks manifest. Genetics alone cannot determine your destiny.
At SelfDecode, we analyze a vast amount of genetic data to provide comprehensive insights into your health risks. Our mission is to empower you with valuable insights and personalized recommendations based on scientific research. The information we provide is not a diagnosis but a tool to understand how your genes may affect your health. With this knowledge, you can make informed decisions about your health journey.
If you have specific concerns about the information in your reports, please don't hesitate to contact our dedicated support team at [email protected]. We're here to assist you and address any issues or questions you may have.

Beware beware beware!
If you think this company is in the business of helping people improve their lives, think again. Their subscription option sounds like a great, affordable idea until you realize they charged you for another year without notice. I honestly did not get much out of the service for the year I had it. The reports are generic and largely unhelpful. With this, I had no intentions of paying $97 to sign up for another year. They have always bombarded my inbox with offers and ways to take more of my money, so I got used to deleting them immediately. I have read on here that the subject of the email a month before the subscription was set to renew was incredibly misleading and easily overlooked. After reaching out to customer service, I was told I could not be refunded despite canceling my subscription as soon as I realized. They claimed that what I paid had already gone toward the service for that period. What service did you administer to someone who hasn't been active on her account for months? These people are looking to grab your money any chance they get. Any other company I've paid money to on a subscription-like basis is always understanding and empathic on a human level to handle issues like this with grace. SelfDecode is not and it sounds like others have had this same issue.

Misleading auto-renewal notice email
They sent me an email giving me notice of my subscription renewal with a misleading subject line starting with “Congrats! …”. I goes without saying that I didn’t open it. Just got charged for 1 year subscription and when I told them about it on the very day they charged me they declined to refund me. Bad customer service!

Terrible customer support
I have been trying to contact support (by email) for 11 days now about a test kit not received and they do not even respond.
I could not find any telephone numbers I can call.
Should I just conclude this company is too incompetent to serve its customers and get my credit card company to charge back?
-----------------------------
I have just now (May 21, 2:22 PM EDT) responded to the email you just sent. Let me know here if you did not receive it.
Response from SelfDecodeMay 18, 2023
Hi Francis. I'm so sorry to hear that you did not receive our reply to your email. I thoroughly reviewed our email history and our records show that we replied to your inquiry within 3 hours of its receipt. I've followed up with you again regarding your DNA kit, and we look forward to resolving your issue as soon as possible.
Our primary mode of support is via email as we’ve found we can give our highest quality of support when we focus our efforts on this method. This setup also allows us to pass on useful things such as links to help articles, screenshots, and step by step workflows, which you can then refer back to again in the future. Of course, if you'd prefer to connect with us via telephone, you can reach us at (949) 328-4072.
We hope to from you soon and look forward to assisting you in any way we can.

Beware.
I understand this company looks awesome if you just see the impressive 5 star rating, but I really wish I'd seen the negative reviews before signing up to their service, so I hope my review will help someone. Yes, they do bombard you with spam so at some point you stop paying attention to their emails. Their "payment reminder" email says something like "Congratulations on your Health Anniversary", so you'll have no idea that your credit card is about to be charged. You tell them to cancel the subscription moments after the payment goes through and their customer service will send you lengthy emails (just like all these replies to the reviews you see here) pretending they are "addressing the issue". Say goodbye to your $100.
Response from SelfDecodeApr 15, 2023
Hi Julia -- we hope this message finds you well. First, we'd like to sincerely apologize for any confusion surrounding your annual subscription renewal. At SelfDecode, we always go out of our way to be as clear as possible about our service. All of our landing and checkout pages contain explicit language that we are a subscription service to avoid any confusion about auto-renewals.
We are very confident in the value that we provide, which is why we offer a 30 day money back guarantee on any initial subscription purchase. We want to make sure you're happy with your subscription, and we're eager to assist you with any questions you have while navigating the site. I can see that we did already offer you a call with our team to better assist you.
We also always offer the option to set your subscription to non-renewal, for those who do not wish to continue with us. This can be done from within your account or through our support team. Users have a full year to cancel before their subscription auto-renews.
We understand it can be easy to lose track of auto-renewals, so we always send out an email one month prior to your renewal date, reminding you that your subscription is about to renew. We do apologize if the email was missed, and we really appreciate your feedback on the subject line of the email.
We like to keep our customers informed of updates on the site, tools for making the most of your subscription, and the most up-to-date news in the biohacking community. We understand that can be a little overwhelming for some people, so you always have the option to unsubscribe from our mailing list, if you no longer wish to receive our emails.
If you do not wish to continue with the auto-renewal feature, please let us know, and we will make sure to turn it off for you. We appreciate your business and look forward to assisting you in any way we can. We hope you reach out to us soon!

No useful info- watch out for auto renewal!!!
The information is not useful, and the recommendations are nothing new, they are more common knowledge suggestions Be careful, they will automatically renew your subscription and charge your credit card!
Response from SelfDecodeMar 1, 2023
Hi Wendy -- we hope this reply finds you well! I am truly sorry to hear that some of your results have not been resonating with you. It is worth noting that the risk scores do not predict which health conditions you will develop will 100% certainty. The risk icon in your Health Reports tell you if you are at a higher or lower risk compared to other people, and they are solely based on genetics.
Because there are other variables that will influence the emergence of certain conditions, or prevent others from developing, genes alone are not enough to diagnose a condition or predict the future. Many people are at high risk for diseases and conditions they never get, and vice versa.
There are other factors, including lifestyle, environment, and overall health, that play an important role in determining how your genetic risks manifest in your life. Genetics is just one piece of the puzzle.
This is where the beauty of SelfDecode begins. By understanding what genetic conditions you are most at risk for and why you are at risk for them, you are able to take your destiny into your own hands by modifying your diet, lifestyle, and supplement action plan to avert the expression of such genes.
We understand your concern regarding the automatic renewal of your subscription and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. At SelfDecode, we go out of our way to be very clear about our auto-renewal policy, to avoid this type of confusion. We also understand it can be easy to lose track of renewals, so we sent you a reminder email one month in advance of your recent subscription renewal.
Please know that we value you as a customer and we would be happy to assist you in using our service to its fullest potential. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Could Be Dangerous If You Take It Seriously
First off the annoyance of being barraged with emails asking for more money for more services is off putting in itself. Secondly, Self Decode did absolutely nothing that I couldn't do myself with a quick search online. Some of the suggestions are so general as to be laughable. Others certainly do not apply to my health in the past and are not applicable now either. I have a lifetime to look back on my health. I think about the information and suggestions and wonder if my DNA is being interpreted correctly. It doesn't seem so. I don't have the "problems" (now or in the past)that I should have according to the site and I do have issues never even mentioned. That is really disconcerting. If you enjoy this sort of thing as an amusement and don't regard any of the information as gospel truth, maybe. Most of the general information is available for free if you do a little research. But I wouldn't be taken in again.

Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear that you did not find our email updates helpful. We provide additional services to better help our customers when seeking to improve their health, so we like to keep our everyone well informed about what’s available on the site. You can absolutely unsubscribe at any time if you are not interested in said services.
Before we go any further, I want to emphasize that the risk scores in your reports are not definitive of what health conditions you will develop.
It's also worth noting that the information provided by SelfDecode is not a diagnosis or prediction. It is simply meant to empower you with more information about how your genes may potentially impact your health.
We aim to help you learn more about your genetic health risks and offer personalized recommendations to counteract the risks. We also tell you which genes you have that are associated with certain conditions and symptoms based on scientific research.
I completely understand the feeling that the recommendations feel generic. Your top recommendations do happen to be the things that seem "generic" or common because they are the things that are going to be most effective and have the most research behind them.
We realized that our users wanted more, so we added the option to remove recommendations from your reports. If you remove a recommendation that you don't find useful, it will be replaced with a suggestion from further down on your prioritized list. These recommendations tend to be less common since there is less research on their effectiveness.
We always cite our sources throughout our reports, so if you are interested in seeing where we got any information from, you can click on the blue R to read the article yourself!
Of course, you could find these articles online yourself, however our Science Team has done the work of finding the most distinguished research and matching it up to the relevant health topics for you, so you don't need to. Our goal at SelfDecode is to provide you with information about your genetics to help empower your health and awareness without having to sift through a ton of research papers and studies.
We truly care about about our customers getting the right product fit, so we encourage you to reach out to our support team, if you haven't already. You can reach us at [email protected] - we're happy to help!
